    IMG_6400.JPG Hi all,
I found this gem in my local hobby shop recently, and was so blown away with it that I thought that I would do a open box review. It is a 1/8 scale figure of Tarzan, produced by the company Pegasus, sculpted by Scott Willis and inspired by the art of Joe Jusko. It is also fully licensed and brought out to mark the 100 year anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs' American icon. The finished kit will stand at approx. 24cm high once completed. The best thing about this kit though is the price...... approx. $34 - $40US!!!!!!!!!

The kit comes in a typical model kit box, with great art work (photos) of the finished kit (it is unknown to me who painted up this one, but he has done a great job). The parts are made of what is a grey solid vinyl and come on trees as per IMG_6391.JPG a normal styrene construction kit ( I have removed the main parts from the trees for this review) IMG_6392.JPG IMG_6397.JPG IMG_6398.JPG IMG_6399.JPG The kit also comes with a set of good basic instructions, not that most people will need them. All parts have a large socket fitting so location of parts is unmistakeable. The anatomy of the figure looks to be pretty good, the muscles are very well sculpted and designed to look quite beefcake. The only area that to me looks a bit out is his backside and wher his legs join the torso(yes I did check this out!!!!)It maybe a tad skinny, but the loin cloth tends to cover most this.
The small details are just as well sculpted, lots of detail which is nice. The spear shaft is way too long and quite bent, but I always replace these items anyway so no big deal on my part. The base is not bad, possibly a bit light on the detail, but is perfect for a beginner to try out some of their drybrushing and wash skills. There are very fine mould/seam lines that will need to be removed, I have not as of yet tried to sand or remove these to see how it goes due to it being vinyl.

These photos show the fit of the main parts of the figure. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!! A small amount of putty on the seam of the shoulders is all that is needed. The leg joints are hidden by the loin cloth so none is needed here IMG_6393.JPG IMG_6394.JPG IMG_6395.JPG IMG_6396.JPG IMG_6401.JPG This last pic is of the hair, it is not fully pushed down onto the head (a bit of flash is stopping it) so that is why it looks a bit weird. I do think that it will need a bit of work to get it to look perfect, but you can just heat it up with a hairdryer and shape it to the head for a better fit.
I think that this kit is great value for anyone, easy and cheap for beginners to practice their skills at doing figures, as well as great for anyone who has an interest in this subject. It would also make a great diorama if the right scale gorilla, chimp or lion can be found. It also, due to the fact that it is almost a nude mannequin, could easily be used for a conversion to something else. With painting it, acrylics have to be used due to it being vinyl, but that is probably its only down fall for oil lovers such as myself.
Keep an eye on this company, they have brought out some great unusual kits such as a Great White Shark with diver in a cage, and the Nautalis and octopus from 20 000 leagues under the sea. I hope to see more form this company and at these prices.
    Thanks for looking

    Hi Ben ,

Thanks for the Review , what an interesting find and in the old style of kits , fit looks good ..I would probably extend the "clothing"....good some might say exagerated muscle tone ..but hey this is Tarzan :)

Really good conversion potential as well ...possibly to a caveman or a basis to be clothed

Is this the only one from the books or do we have Jane or the monkey as well ?

    Thanks for sharing

    HI Nap
I agree with the anatomy, I personally like it so it doesn't faze me at all. As for a conversion, its perfect as a base figure for sure!!!!! Caveman, barbarian etc etc.
I have heard rumours of the same kit but with a lion added but as far as I know, it hasn't been released yet, here is a box top image

    Hi Ben ,

Oooooh that Lion will be a big one ..strange to release the same figure with the lion and as a separate piece..though I suppose not everyone wants a lion!!!!

I really wish we could have shops like this in the uk
    This sculpt is superb.
I bought a pair of koyobukiya Stormtroopers for Christmas, my other passion, the only box the dealer got imported for him.
£75 a pair, but a good price as we really get the rough end of lack of imports here
Things like this make me drool, and no not half naked men :)

    Hi Gra30
Don't worry, you have more shops in the UK that carry our type of figure/model than what we have here in Australia, there is only one mail order company that I know of for all of OZ!!!!! As for this kit and the others in the Pegasus range, they can be found in most local hobby shops, that's what is so good about it. Google "Pegasus Hobbies kits" to see what else is available, I was quite impressed

Cheers Ben, I will look now and many thanks for drawing attention to what looks like a superb range.
Yeah I realise we are lucky mate, but remembering being taken to model shops by my dad in the 70s just reminds me how it used to be.
That said the world is our oyster with the net, just miss the occasional impulse buy :)
Thanks again and all the best

Pic number 6..Without hair added..Does it remind you of the CGI guy from PROMETHEUS just before he scatters his DNA into the Icelandic waterfall.....
That body color might be hard to replicate...White body with a fine misting of pale blue might do...
Just noticed his ears are missing:eek: Tempted now but I'm finding the new postage rates are a killer..Kits are good value but you pay twice as much for P&P. Bah Humbug.

I ordered this off ebay a few months ago for about £30 and got it in about 10 days without - for once - paying any duty.
