Managed to grab some bench time over the last few days before starting back to work tomorrow:mad:
Early stages with this one, managed to completly destroy right hand and sword after the figure was primed by not paying attention and stood on it. John from Hawk Miniatures came to the rescue with a replacement part sent out to me.So, thanks again John(y).
The base is done, used magisculpt for the ground work with microballoons for the snow with just a few clumps of grass added.
The figure just has most of the main colours blocked in at the moment, all vallejo acrylics but will be using oils for the flesh.

hi barry. I noticed on a few of your models in the past that you must have stood on them, ha ha only joking. thank you for handing in that northern Ireland figure, I am working on it at the moment, hope I can do it justice./badger

Great start on this Barrie. I was lucky to receive this figure as a Christmas present. It has to be one of the best sculpted/molded figures that I have come across. I'll be following your progression.

    Good work so far Barrie.
His face is really nice and the texture on the Afghan coat is first class. Was it sculpted into the casting or did you paint it on?
I am currently working on a greatcoat and I am thinking of trying to stipple two or three closely matched colours to get this effect.......fingers crossed.
Looking forward to your next progress report.
    Cheers,
    Keith

    Shaping up VERY nicely indeed.

Just one point though: Wasn't it Captain Souter?

    That's looking really good Barrie
He was a Lieutenant at Gandamak, being made Captain later that year.
I've just started making this for "Toy Soldier & Model Figure"; John gave me a model to review at Euro.
The model really goes together well and is nicely moulded. The fun bit will be adding the decoration to the posteen (Afghan) coat....

Tom, your right about the sculpt and casting. Hardly any clean up at all. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Keith, thanks for your comments. The coat was primed with vallejo's grey primer (the whole figure was actually) through the air brush and then i used the black primer and sprayed that on in certain areas, a sort of pre shading. Hope i dont lose the effect later on in the painting.

Thanks Steve, looks like PaulN got in there first with the info. There is a sheet included with the figure giving history details on the 44th and the actions at Gandamak.

Thanks Paul. The fun bit will be the decoration on the coat, fresh pointed brushes for that bit i think.
Your nameplate looks good against the black of the base i think.
