    Hi All,

Haven't posted much for some time...that's what you get for working for a travel agency in Greece during the summer !

Had this one in my grey army for some time and decided I wanted a BIG challenge. It has taken me almost 5 days of intermittent work to bring the base to an acceptable level in order to start painting on the Griffon and the rider. I wanted to give a sense of height to the base so after a lot of deliberation and the peculiar setting of the Griffon I decided this was it. there is a lot od space to cover on the base, but the wings do much of that.

Well this is when the fun starts.

    Thanks to all for looking.

    Anthony

    Hi Zeno,
The Storm Griffon is produced by Nocturna Models - http://nocturnamodels.com/product.php?id_product=38
It has been a tough one so far. The casting is great quality, but there were some air bubbles and the awkward position of the Griffon means that a lot of putty was used to cover the seams (the body was split in half) - much like when you make a horse. I also remade the claws on the lifted leg to make them look sharper.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Anthony,

Looks good so far I'm to place an order for this kit and several of Nocturna's figures, How is the general overall quality?

Looking forward to seeing more progress

    Hi Ray,

The overall quality is very good. There were some air bubbles but that it to be expected with all resin kits. Clean up of the mould lines did not take very long. It was a bit of an adventure getting the two parts of the body to connect well - the back leg section connects with the front section at the back harness - but for an experienced modeller this will not pose any problems (you will have to close some gaps). The only other area that required a good clean-up was the riders stirrups. It is a beautifully sculpted model with great detail. It will require a lot of patience to paint due to the feathers, I have made good progress on the eagle head, I may post a few pics in a couple of days when it is finished!

This is my first contact with Nocturna's figures - Verdict: a solid 8/10

Thanks Anthony, I have had planned on other projects but thinking I will move this one to the front :) I generally paint historic but really like the fantasy stuff as well. The beauty of it is more and more is coming available in the larger scales (54mm and up). For mine I've been studying a lot of bald eagles and may use that as my base for my Griffon and may go with a Tuetonic knight look for the rider.

    Cheers

Hi Alex, Thanks for your comments! I am using Acrylics only. The "lion" is not finished yet, I am having a tough time with this colour, the blending is proving quite difficult for me, so I decided to let it sit for a day or 2, let the colour settle down and then finish it. Thanks, Anthony

Hi Gerald, Thanks. To be honest this is the most fun I have had with a figure in a long time. If you are up for a challenge (it is not easy with all the feathers) I think it is worth the effort. Anthony

    Beautiful work , amazing!
Just out of curiosity, would you tie down your feather work again using a wash or an ink glaze, or will you keep it as it is?
Just interested in your approach and progress that's all.
I like to learn. Thank you, Karl.
