    Hi,

I've been waiting for painting this kit a long time and now I got it!
If you hear someone saying that it's a difficult one to paint, believe it,
because it is... The great sculpt brings more things to paint and details
to be managed... but I recommend it strongly, it's great great fun!!!!

So, this is the second horse that I paint. After I painted a brown one in the
past I thought that maybe this time I would raise the stake and try something
that I hear people saying that is more difficult. I'm going for a Dapple Grey horse.
Well, it's a hard job indeed... I don't have an airbrush and I don't use oils... I quickly
found out that this would be major task for me... So after almost a couple of weeks
trying this and that I ended up with the result you will see next.
Right now I'm yet to find a nice color to the crest and tail, which I don't know which,
maybe I go with a soft beige, and the lower part of the legs need a little more work, maybe highlights,
and of course the hoofs. Then I will go to the straps, saddle, etc...

I've also painted the face of the Hussar. I think I'm going for the 5th Regiment uniform: light blue and white.

After so many words the pics:

Please feel free to comment and saying what I need to improve.
Oh, and a suggestion about the horse hair color would be nice.

This is a very good start.
I did it 3 years ago, with much satisfaction at that time. Today I must say that I do not like it so much; the horse is attractive but too much toylike.
I have a second copy in my grey army; I might though give it a chance once again...

    Very very nice Pedro
I wish my first dapple turned out half as good as this one, especially since you did it all in acrylics as well. Maybe you could share some tips... I have greys on the bench and they terrify me :nailbiting:
Heres a couple of examples of manes and tails ranging from white to black

    Hi Paul,

I've seen yours, and the SBS in the Figurinitaly Forum. I like it very much!
Your horse painting is very nice and unusual. The Hussar is beautifully painted I must say.
I like your colors of the leopard skin, it will be my inspiration.
I think I don't understand what you mean about the horse... You mean that is too perfect to be
    a real horse?

    Regards
    Pedro

    Ola Pedro

    Fantastico começo!!
Estou curioso para ver o final!
Podes pintar as crinas e a cauda de um tom amarelado, mas tambem depende da cor que vais utilizar no uniforme do cavaleiro!

    Abraço

    Good info Pedro
I have the Cartacci book, I tried that method to paint the grey, I just wasn't happy with the job I did. I just need to practice a few times to get it right before I start on a project horse

I will be following this project closely

I understand. I don't have Cartacci's book, I tried to replicate what I saw in this painted horses. Before start I was to ask someone if could scan me the
book part about painting horses, but I was afraid it was considered "copying" (don't know the exact english word for it).
You know what? Maybe you could get an historex horse just for practice, then you can strip it down and try another and colors, since they are cheap.

I mean, the horse looks like a carousel one. Kind of too perfect and artificial (mane, tail, neck...) But very nice overall.
You can follow me for the tones of the leopard skin, but please do not imitate the spots. They are not good.
Better follow my post about Colonel Briche of the 10th regiment (on PF).

Yes, I know what you mean about the horse. Is good, but maybe too overdone.
I may have to agree with you. Maurizio Bruno is a great sculptor, but I like more
    the Andrea Jula horses.
I find your tones of the Leopard skin very rich, but I already have several real photos of
leopards to follow also. I'll take a look at the Colonel ones ;)
