    Hi Guys ,

Thanks for the comments especially about the plume , looking at the picture Wings posted mine does now look too high and indeed look fuller rather than more defined in 3 section so I will relook at it again including the fur being brushed back as Funky said ....important details like this are vital and thanks again for taking the time .

One thing has anyone got a close up of the collar lace please

Can't wait to get some paint on him myself .......................

    THANKS for all info .

    Hi Nap,

Don't know if this one helps. It's Irish Guards but the lace pattern is the same. I may have something better at home as well. I'll check when I get in.

    Hi Pete,
    Yes indeed,
As you can see in your post earlier in this stream of some good information.
My only point here was that at the time of the Three Cheers, 2012, the feather plume would have been worn not the bristle plume that was shown.
    All the best
    Keith

Yes I totally agree Kevin (G),
David sculpted some great pieces. Shame that he is no longer making figures but Gra is doing a magnificent job keeping his figures alive.
You could convert the S P Ward Drum Major figure to a Grenadier. I remember seeing one chopped up to represent a Bugle Major of a Rifle Bigade.
    All the best,

Never had the courage to chop up a David Grieve figure it would have seemed like sacrilege to me ...they always seemed so perfect that anything I could have added would have stood out like a sore thumb...I think it's a testament to his skill as a sculptor how well they stand up today...I' m hoping Graham will talk him into producing something in future ....he and Richard Almond are what rekindled my love of this hobby....looking forward to some paint on this bust so keep at it and good luck.....Cheers

Kev, you know I am really looking forward to seeing how this piece turns out. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh soon. I know it will be good.

    Hi Kevin(G),
David was as good as my next door neighbour when I lived in the UK. Most everyone of the local figure hobbyists keep trying to get him back in the frame and I hope that one day he will take up the requests.
Not only was he a good sculptor the was a fine arts painter and a real nice bloke too. When I bought my CG drum major S P Ward he loaned me all of the original photo's that he took of Stephen at Wellington Barracks.
    All the very best,
    Keith

    Hi Guys ,
Just a quick update , I have redone the plume ...lower and with some of the bearskin fur "brushed" back ....also I had another look at the medals ...off they all came ( sorry Carl!!!) , I am now doing them all again as they are being worn court mounted (ie on a full length backing ribbon)..like these: [IMG]........still really enjoying working on this piece ................

Getting closer to the basecoats!!!!...after I have done a few things!!!! (still to put the leek emblems on the epaulettes as they were the wrong shape, sword hilt straps ..... he will have also have a pace stick and a shorter arm...but no legs Jimbo!!!!)

Thanks for all the comments ..really helpful

Good Luck with the medals Kevin.
On my W D C Mott bust I made it nine in all:eek:!!!
I have the list from Worcester Medals if you need it but being the Medal Meister you most likely already know them.
Will we get some pictures soon Mate?
    Cheers,

Great work :))) and my apologies as I do not want to derail the thread as this is coming along really great.

I love Carl's sculpting and this is really doing the piece justice.

I spoke to David last year at Euro, he was very positive about coming back to figure sculpting when we spoke, the illusive 24th Foot figure is apparently true and he still has it although not finished. Maybe myself and others can corner him this year :)

I only mention this in the context of us talking about Guards Regiments.
At a request of a former Guards Drum Major I did convert a figure last year, Gordon Mitchell painted it for the guy but the conversion was a one off. He is a specific former DM hence the moustache and medals. As said I could not dare touch David's work so it was all done on a cast and hopefully it is not defacing too much :)
Here are a couple of images.
I also have the 5 200mm guards regiment busts David did but the collars are for normal ranks so I don't think will help with the lace request but I will happily send if they may help.
Hope you don't mind me posting, very best wishes and see you at Euro :))

    Hi Kevin,
For a detailed picture of the gold lace for collar and cuffs go to; http://www.handembroideryshop.co.uk/acatalog/shop.html then go to UK Military page then Army Lace and finally Bias and Stand.
Bias and Stand is the type of lace you are looking for and for most of what you need will be 1/2".
Sorry i could not pick up the complete web address but for some reason the site did not want to play.
I hope that this is of some use to you.
    All the best,
    Keith

    Hi Kevin,
    Billy Mott has the following;

    OBE
    MVO
    South Atlantic ( with rosette)
    GSM 1962 w/c Northern Ireland
    Golden Jubilee Medal 2002
    Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012
    Meritorious Service Medal
    Accumulated Campaign Service Medal
Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (with clasp)

This is the correct order of wear as well

    Cheers,
    Keith

Bear in mind that the MVO was awarded for his part in arranging the Diamond Jubilee celebrations so it had not been awarded at the time the "Three Cheers" picture was taken. I've scanned a couple of pages from an old Military Modelling from the early 90s which may be useful. It shows the detail on a Grenadier tunic but may be helpful nonetheless.

I might be mistaken, but the MVO isn't cast on the bust.

    Ah yes,
Good point Pete. I received this information to complete my Billy Mott figure for most upto date I could get; 19th November 2012 the MVO Honours were dished out in September of that year. My reasoning was that every time I saw another 'latest photo' he had added another gong.
Great pictures from MM Magazine, where did they go wrong and stop publishing these great articles?
    All the best,

He does seem to be collecting them at quite a rate (certainly compared to his predecessor) :)
