Kaz! ... I completely agree with Roger! (ish).. ear cropping,( Started around 1900) and would have been down to the individual breeder! possibly then, but more so, now! .. so one breeder may supply a dog with cropped ears, and another would not! there are three types of crop! Military/Pet, Medium, and Show! ! .. e.g. Doberman1.jpg I think yours are well in scale and applicable!

    Regards,

    Mark

Kaz, you're coming full circle buddy and your efforts are incredible. Like I said, "an incredible intesnity in art" is how I'd describe it. I too have never ventured into this realm, but when I retire I plan to make a go of it, work has a habit of getting in the way of this Sport for me. Great work Kaz!

    Cheers, Ski.

Whatever you decide Kaz it will still be a great sculpt. The ears were just something that I noticed and not a slur on your sculpting abilities. Looking forward to seeing further progress.

    Roger.

    Hi Kaz,
Personally I think you have the figures spot on in relation to your reference and vision. You can tell you have put the work into the pose and position of both figure and dog. I like the raised ears on the dog gives him that daunting look just like his owner. Some really nice drapery too. Some photo's from the left hand side and rear would be nice.
    cheers
    Richie
P.S. Did my PM make sense!

Very nice work Kas, you show some good tallent for sculpting.

I think this is a ww2 image showing Doberman in German use.

Dan, Waterman, Mark, Ski, Roger, Richie, 1969, thanks for your comments and nice info!
and, Special thanks to Waterman, Mark, and 1969 for info and pics on Doberman and with Germans. That's really great help.

before reshaping Doberman, I'm reworking on jacket and pockets, and decided to build my own version of officer cap, instead of using Tamiya parts.

Hello Kaz, I like the new cap, it looks more natural and not as stiff as the Tamiya version. Also a few photos of German soldiers with dobermans. Regards, SG tumblr_mfogow1Xy31rlwpvso1_400.jpg tumblr_mfz70hRSsO1rlwpvso1_1280.jpg These are message dogs, the message canister can be seen around the neck of the dog in the first photo, and to the soldiers right in the second.

A very nice sculpt indeed. The dog looks great. I'm not into WW2 figures but this is a fine job that you should be very proud of.

Brilliant composition Kazufumi! It is stunningly well achieved!

I'm pretty sure that if this creation would become part of a range such as Alpine it would transform itself as a best seller for many years to come! It's truly marvelous! Congratulations!

Kaz, wonderful work indeed. Really like how you have done this as a first sculpt, amazing!
I think the dog looks super and dont worry you will always get people telling you how to do what you have done. Keep right on with your super work, I still remember the German you brought to Euro, totally hand built by robots/magnets!!!!!!!!!

SG, thank you very much for the great reference pics! It really helps!
gregmarm, Gerald, Blue Thunder, Thanks a lot for your compliments!

That's what I wanted to achieve, "German look", so if you think so I'm glad.

Don, I'm really glad you like it, (this is not my first sculpt, though :)).
Yes, I remember the very first day at Euro, you are the one of the first pF people I met there. LOL I was really glad you remember my work.
(I still regret I was in terrible condition and was in fuddle in 2 days, couldn't go out with you guys when I met you at Euro last year, please forgive impoliteness. I want to be fresh and crunchy next time. :))

Thanks a lot for your comments, Taesung! I always admire your work and amazing skill of engineering equipments.

OK, while I'm letting dry the putties on figure, I was working on the dog. Here's the progress.

I would buy the dog right now for my USMC dog handler to replace my less stellar effort. Wouldn't want to do one sitting would ya? :woot:

Here area couple of pics of my WIP handler and dog. Dog is not great and handler is early in the painting stages

Figure is the Michael Roberts Code Talker with replacement head. The dog was done fairly quickly and needs more muscle definition, etc, I just lost interest and painted it to see how he would look. Meant to resemble one of those USMC staged PR type photos of handlers with their dogs. Dog hair on base not to scale!

That looks GREAT!! I love it!
I didn't know that 120mm USMC figure, so I checked out the Michael Roberts website just now. I see you converted head and left shoulder and arm in right position.
I want to do USMC w/ dogs in the future project too!

Thanks, you are being far too kind.
Actually I just replaced the head, must be the pic that makes the shoulder look different (at least I don't recall doing anything else to it,but its been a little while since I started him).
You could also go with the guy at the bottom left of this page, the Code Talker might be based on him, they look very similiar:

    http://www.tlbminiatures.com/tlbfigures.html

Pose is more relaxed and theres no radio that you are paying for (as there is in the Code Talker kit). For some reason the pic of him isn't clickable to get a larger view (perhaps out of stock) , but I found this one.

If my sitting dog was anywhere near the quality of yours I would be a happy camper.

That looks nice too, I found out it is sculpted by Alan Ball, I'm a big fan of his indian works. (I have his "Sign of the time" 54mm vignette kit)

Here's the progress, I was working on another optional head.
