    Hey All

Started this single figure while the frustration with my Borodino project wears off.:sour:

This is a 54mm figure by Romeo. I've decided to paint him representing an Regimental Sergeant-Major of the 16th (Queen's Own) Regiment of Light Dragoons during the 100 Days campaign. This regiment was present at the Belgian-French frontier as a part of the 4th Cavalry Brigade under M-G Vandeleur, screening and scouting as the Allies gathered at Quatre Bras, then screened the retreat through Wavre to Waterloo and then participated in that most famous of battles.

    And I like red.

Acrylics have been used throughout so far. Started from the top down, the face is more or less done, the shako and hair are just blocked in with their base colours.

The dark blue of the 1811 model light dragoon coat is based with a mix of Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue and Black. The highlights are more blue and Sky grey added t the base and the shadows are done by adding more black to the base.
    IMGP0114.jpg IMGP0115.jpg IMGP0117.jpg IMGP0118.jpg IMGP0119.jpg IMGP0120.jpg
The breeches are done using Andrea's White set. I brought up the final high with some pure Vj White and gave the final shade of the white set a boost by adding some Vj Burnt Umber.

The red of the plasterons, collar, cuffs, turnbacks and piping is just base coated with Vj Carmine Red so far. I buggered up the girdle because apparently I can't count three yellow stripes and two red stripes... yellow-red-yellow-red-yellow... duh:wacky:. I'll redo the girdle tonight and carry on with the highs and shades on the reds.

Thanx for looking in, comments and critiques are most welcome

    Cheers

Looking good Colin - brave of you to tackle a blonde :) Nice colour mix on a very business-like uniform given the extent of decoration on other uniforms of the period. I always like the Lt Dgns.

Get him done quick so you can get back to Borodino. A change is as good as a rest they say.

I too like this uniform... plain yet very elegant. It very much puts me in mind of the French/Polish Lancer jacket with the plasterons, piping on the sleeves and back and the pointed cuffs. I'm hoping to get a good chunk of him done tonight (after my short break to watch a rerun of Vikings). Being a simple uniform, it shouldn't take too long... but I don't want to rush it either.

I am chomping at the bit to get back at the putty and put some more miles on Borodino.

Looks Great Colin!! I understand your frustration ;) I'm kind of passing something quite similar... just can't concentrate in one figure... just have to change from one to another in order to keep painting or else I don't paint at all... Of course your Borodino project is something else ;)
The Blond hair colour is not an easy one.... I'm also struggling with that in one figure....
That aside I believe that you here a nice job! The Andrea White set is not easy to master but you have already learned how to control it, the breaches look good.

Nice start Colin, the blue and red combination is a killer uniform on this trooper.
Sometimes is better to divert the attention to another small project and then comeback full charge on the "main " project.
We all experience frustration, but i think you are taking the right steps and taking your time for the Borodino and it will pay off when it's finally done.
Your work is great and can't wait to see this trooper finished! (y)

Thanx everyone for the kind words.
Last night I highlighted and shaded the red. did some washes on the hair and started to re-do the girdle. I'll be starting on some of the detail today and will post more picks later tonight.

Yes, much closer to a 60 or even 65mm... almost a full head taller than most 54's. It's a really easy sculpt to work with and has really crisp details. I've done a few Romeo figs in 54 and 75mm and they've all been really good casts.

Where we're at as of last night's sitting. Blue and red are done (save the inevitable touch ups). Red was based with Vj Carmine, highlighted by adding sunny skintone and shaded with Vj Red (926) and again with a spot of Black added to the Red.

Tonight I'll start attacking some of the details like shako furniture, girdle and rank insignia.

R u refering to the wine corks glued to the big washers or the elastics around the ankles? If it's the elastics, they came into play because I only pinned one of this guys feet... so everytime I tilted him to paint, he would do a very ungraceful piroette. So I trussed him up... Mild bondage:sneaky:

Here's afew more while I take a smoke break.
The Epaulettes, chevrons and shako furniture are silver. Not silver bullion but silver infused cloth and cord. So I,ve based withVJ Light Grey and gave a wash with Citadel Badab Black wash. When dry, I'll touch the highs with Sargent Acrylic Silver then maybe wash with black again, maybe.

OK, smoke's done... Back at 'er!

And silver over the Grey base/Black wash. I think I'll wash it again when it's dry.
