OK, back at it.
After multiple aborted attempts, this is where I'm at with the Russian Jager who is trying to bayonet the downed Cuirassier. I tried and failed 3 or 4 times to do the body of the jacket with both Apoxie and Milliput... This last attempt is Greenstuff and is about as close as I've come to acceptable.... Not as smooth as I wish it could be... any thoughts or ideas are more than welcome... They're much needed!

First off, let me say what excellent work you're doing here. The piece should look superb when it's finished and I love the composition and posing of the figures.
If it were me, I'd stick to milliput or magic sculp for the main part of the jacket and use the greenstuff for the details..... I guess it comes down to what people are comfortable working with but my problem with greenstuff is that it never sets rock hard and I can't carve or sand it once it goes off
I agree with your thoughts on his jacket as you have it now, too rough, with too many gouges or deep creases.

I agree with Tonton. You probably fixed it by now - but I just put few dots in - see if it seems Ok to you

With regards to Jager- I would put arms even higher to add sense of motion - to the highest amplitude point.
Think postures in comics books - all movement is exagerated to end point of motion, otherwise position in the middle is ambiguous - from current position he could be drawing the rifle up as well as stabbing down.

Try a mix of green stuff and magic sculpt 25/75 or 50/50 - then use vaseline and a brush - you will get surfaces as smooth as glass. It will have ability to hold edges, but will not be rubbery as pure GS, my favourite mix at the moment, albeit works out a bit expensive.

And then, even if this wasnt enough - it sands down very very well - a nail buffer will make it shine.

Hi Colin - get a couple of tubs of magic sculpt - there's nothing ike it. I can't sculpt in green stuff and miliput is too hard to find, too expensive, and too grainy (as I recall as I haven't used it in years). MS is relatively cheap and lasts a long time. I just ordered some from western Canada.

BTW = the jaeger looks great - terrific anatomy.
