DSC03831.JPG DSC03832.JPG DSC03833.JPG DSC03834.JPG Touraine_34RI_1779.png Jean theurel.jpg Here's one of the six or seven figures that i am planning to add to the big Yorktown diorama.
I have order another batallion pack from Trident designs and needless to say i am really happy with the size and quality of the figures, customer service is first class.
Since i am in touch with my feminine side today i am painting Pink facings :p.
This figures unlike my Soissonois and Royal Deux-ponts will be performing some tipycal "chasseur" drill, firing some shots before the main body of troopers take positions.
the uniform of this regiment consisted in a White coat with pink facings cuffs, piping at the lapels and collar.
As for the Chasseur features i decided to leave the plume on the hat , that is a feature from the 1776 short lived regulation which many troops ignored and still carried after the 1779 regulation.
The epaulattes on the other hand are strict adherence to the 1779 guidelines.
the coat is practically done, need to finish the face, pants, vest, gaiters and some minor touches on the fusil.
One of the pictures i am posting for reference is a portrait of Jean de Theurel in his Touraine Uniform, this soldier is credited of being the "oldest soldier" in French service, 72 years of service,so i want to mention him with the respect he deserves.
The regiment had been established in the 17th century in the province of Touraine (capital: Tours on the river Loire). It had fought in all wars since then and was among the forces that Saint Simon brought from the West Indies to Yorktown. At this time it was commanded by Colonel H. Liamont, vicomte de Poudeux.

Why did you make him black. Not that I mind, just curious.I had noticed that the Trident line has some sculpted figures with black features.Did France have regiments of black troops at this Time?

Hi Marco, yes, few of the French regiments were serving at the caribbean at the time.
This particular regiment was sent to Martinique in early 1780 and returned to france in 1783, in fact, most of the drummers in those regiments were black natives from the Islands.
I have worked on one 70mm figure form Art Girona, a chasseur in 1791 uniform that i converted to a chasseur of the regiment des volontaires de Saint Domingue ( modern day Haiti)
this was one of the firts free black regiment in French Service, see http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/chasseur-volontaires-de-saint-domingue-haiti-1779.51542/
The head of this 40mm trooper obviously has a black man features, but i just added the head to see the final effect on the figure,i may paint him pale skin or change it later.
    Thanks por passing by :)

Four times I think. The standard bearer is as far as I've got, it's not perfect but I'll tuck away at the back of the rest of them. :D
