    Greetings

Here's where we're at now. I'll call the main bulk of the bust... head, hat and torso, DONE!!! That leaves the belt, pistol, dagger and pipe to finish the whole thing off, ready to mount on the base. The belt was started tonight.

Since last time, I've darkened the coat, painted the gold lace and the leather and fur hat.

The coat was darkened using various washes. The gold was based with Goldbrown, highlighted but adding matt yellow to that and washing with Gryphonne Sepia. Onto that, I based Brass highlighted with Old Gold and washed with Delvan Mud.

The leather hat was based with Uniform Green, highlighted by adding Sunny Skintone and shaded by adding German Grey. The whole thing was washed with Delvan Mud. The fur trim was based with Sky Grey and washed with Badab Black. Then drybrushed with the #2 colour from the Andrea white set and Vallejo Off-white. The seams and the break between the leather and fur were picked out by washing with Badab Black.

Thanx for the kind words guys... much appreciated

@Martin, time to pick your brain. I plan to finish this with all the included pieces as is. I know there have been some debates about the accuracy of the equipment but right now I don't have the skill to sculpt new pieces. My question is regarding the pipe... Can this shape of pipe be painted as a clay pipe or is it not the right shape? Or can the bowl be painted as Ivory with a black stem? If I must I will paint as wood but thought there might be some options.

I'm no expert by any means Colin but it looks like it could be painted as a Meerschaum type clay pipe to me. If you need any pictures I've a modern but old styled one here I can post pics of

That would be great Steve... I occasionally smoke a pipe and have a few different ones but sadly no Meerschaum :( I'd love a pipe like that, beautifully carved, hinged lid, need a tripod to hold it up while I smoke it... Man, I have very small dreams

    Thanx again Steve

@Martin, these bowls appear to be clay and carved stone... would the stem then be wood?

    Thanx for your help guys

This time the cat took the pics... But he refused to let me in the picture, said "I'd spoil the shot". He can be mean sometimes.

This is the end of the pieces for this bust. Pistol, dagger, belt and pipe. Historically accurate or not (as argued over this bust, ad nausium), I just went with the OOB pieces without customizing or converting. It's my first bust and I just wanted to get it painted.

The pistol stock is painted to represent the wood with the "tiger stripe" grain. Not sure what kind of wood it is (I'm a metal worker at heart) but I followed the example of a pic of a flintlock pistol circa early 1700's (the two pistols look very similar in design). I further followed the pic with the steel furniture and the brass trigger guard. I hope the grain pattern is visible in the pics... it shows up well in person.
    IMGP0403.jpg IMGP0404.jpg IMGP0405.jpg IMGP0406.jpg IMGP0407.jpg IMGP0408.jpg
The dagger is a simple mid-Asian design with an ebony grip and silver decoration.
    IMGP0409.jpg
The belt is a plain, stout brown leather showing some wear and tear of long years service.
    IMGP0412.jpg IMGP0411.jpg IMGP0410.jpg
I painted the pipe after one of my favourites in my own collection. A heavily grained blonde wood bowl, longish brass coupling and in this case, a curved bone stem. Lots of smoke residue around the rim of the bowl.

All that's left is assembly and on the shelf it goes.

Looks Great Colin!!! Pitty the wood in the pistol doesn't pop out on the pics... But the pipe it's amazing!!!! Looks like real wood!
Let's see it all together now ;)

Thanx Pedro... The grain shows up much better in person... No matter how I went at it, I couldn't get the right angle for it to show up in the pics :(.

I was smoking a pipe as I painted the pipe while I copied another pipe that became the pipe I was painting like the pipe but not the pipe I was smoking... Pipe :wacky:
