I don't think you could anything more to that face to improve what's already been done ,skin tones ,texture, beard shadow and eyes, just perfection.

Coming along nicely Mike, I love the way how you have not used a straight solid colour, but built it up to give a mottled/broken finish to each item. Things like the water bottle cover and webbing show this perfectly

I did wonder at the bright yellow undercoat on the leather waistcoat ,but it all became apparent with your scrub coat of oils ,nice technique with the toothbrush ,got to agree with not using primer at times
as the undercoat serves for this purpose especially if using humbrols for this purpose ,don't know if Tamiya would take to unprepared resin though.

Thanks Sam & Ben for comments. Steadily stepping through each bit as if it is an individual painting project trying to simulate texture & patterns in this scale is fun.

Hi Ron, good to see the effect on the jerkin is coming through. These were quite shiny & was keen to ensure got that effect as well as tanned leather with depth of softer colour hence Citadel Golden Yellow base.
I don't use Tamiya acrylics as I have a stock of Jo Sonja & Vallejo, plus heaps of other bottled ones.
For some reason always thought Tamiya ones were toxic because of the thinner type.

Gotta go & do some painting.

    Happy festive greetings,
    Mike

Joe always appreciate your post. Just finished bayonet frog last night & have begun on magazine pouches today.
Will share more as I work through final stages of upper body.

Have a safe, happy festive season with your family & friends.

    Hi Mike,

You're certainly taking your time with this project, but the results are spectacular. The detail and textures on the webbing and the water bottle are awesome.

Just one suggestion - the enamel on the water bottle should probably be blue rather than green, and could be chipped and and scuffed up. I'm not sure if Aussies and Kiwis had different coloured water bottles but most Aussie ones were dark blue enamel.

I can't wait to see how you tackle the great coat. Best wishes to you and your family for the festive season mate.

Thanks for follow up & likewise festive greetings to you & yours mate.

Ref waterbottle got references with blue & green, some worn, some in good nick. May revisit will see - could be a new issue one too ;-)
Though it is WW1 '08 pattern container.

    Stay safe,

Colin Fraser asked about more SBSs I agree I learn lots from these.
Thought I'd post a couple of shots of this guy on my workbench from a few weeks back.
Some folk may be interested in the clutter that accumulates as I near the end of a project.
On to the great coat today, then on trousers, boots, rifle & base to finish.
Aiming for end of month, so I can get on to another Maori bust for Andy Cairns.

Stay safe & Happy 2013 to all!

    Mike

Looking great, I'm most impressed at your painting desk though, a fine desk, full of essential clutter, just like mine, although i can't paint anything like your quality!
