My latest sculpt, a musketeer from Nerike-Wermlands regiment at the battle of Narva. The Head is a classic hornet, one of my absolute favourite since it has loads of character and it is really fun to paint. Still missig is a LOT of buttons, three dozens or so.. but soon it is painting time.

Nice Sculpting. The style reminds me of a couple of other Swede's out there. Anders and Mike.

    Thanks.
The left hand looks vierd you're right about that. I think it might be the picture that play tricks with the eye, but I will take a closer look. Sometimes I find it difficult to really see if the sculpting looks good, especially when I use Green stuff. I use magnifyers but I can never be sure until I put some paint on it.

It is Nice to be compared to Anders and Mike, but I think it might be the choice of subjects, karoliner- swedish soldiers of Karl XII army, that make our Work look similar. (Not many other than swedes seems to go there) But maybe you're right, perhaps there is a swedish style.

Very good work, I like the subject and the historical period. I agree with Marc about the left hand, but as you´ve said maybe it´s a visual trick due to the combination of white and green stuff. I follow your progress.

Thanks guys and yes Janne, it is definitely encouraging to get such a destinction.

It is quite a interesting period and the more I study the subject the more Figures from that era I want to depict.

    Looks good Lars

Did you use boots from another figure.

    Thanks Ron.
The boots are resin copies of my own masters. The boots of this type is actually the same on the left and right, very handy.

An old project found it way back to my work bench. Fixed the hand and some other stuff and started the fun with painting. Being a private from Närke Wärmlands regiment he's wearing blue/ red uniform instead of the more usual blue/yellow. It's my first try painting red and having trouble with the highlights. They tend to be a bit purple in some areas. Im not shure why because I used the same colours. Any tips would be appreciated.

Lars, i definitively love your sculpting and i am glad that you are doing this period, it seems like part of the history forgotten this side of the world and their colorful uniform.
As for the reds, i could only give you advice on painting acrylics and i am not a professional.
For the red what i do is start with a medium tone, generally a carmine red or deep red, then i add scarlet to the mix for the first lights, then i use an increase on the lights by using french orange (andrea color).
As for the shadows i have citadel shade Carrobourg crimson, which gives a nice shade on the red ,or simply use carmine red and add a little bit of black, that will do the trick.
I have painted a French chasseur of the Dillon regiment in French service, their coat is red and i post it the color mixes if you want to use as a reference too.

Your tone of red looks fine to me, it will change once you start applying the scarlet and orange , that will bring you out of the "crimson red" towards the more scarlet reds.
All the best and i will follow this with great interest.
Ps: I painted a hornet head once, and they are really easy to paint and full of character, yours looks awesome .

    Thanks Daniel.
For me being a Swede it's not surprising that I've have a interest in this period. The more I learn about it the more ideas pop up. And it's fun, and I'm happy you and many others keep encouraging me to keep it up.

As for the red, I'm using vallejo (I would love to try Andreas paint, but it seems like no one is selling them in Sweden)
I use red (70947) as a base, blending dark red (70946) and punk (70958) for the shadow and highlight. I will try a jour tip and adding orange instead.

Roger: thanks, I really like your recent flats. Do you have Amy tips on the red colour?

Lars, my way of painting red on flats is this,
    Base- Cadmium Red.
Shade- Cadmium Red + Viridian Green. (Red + Paynes Grey also works quite well)
    Highlights- Cadmium Orange.

Occasionally I will add an extra "extreme" highlight with Cadmium Yellow.
You should be able to transfer those to whichever medium you use and adapt as required.
    Roger.

Very nice figure and to me rather different.
Love the boots, same boot fits all sort of thing. Was that to make it easy for the soldiers to choose which boot to wear?
    Nice figure though!

Thanks Roger! I Google those colours and translate them to vallejo.
