Really beautiful work both sculpting and painting. I love the character in the faces of the more recent Young busts they are so inviting to paint.

Really nice bust. I am not interested very much in WW1, but just because of its uncommon subject matter, this bust is very tempting.

I've got this one on the way to me & it will be another fitting tribute to my ancestors who served with NZ Expeditionary Forces on the Somme. Looking forward to more of these from Young & will aim on trying to complete this before Armistice Day Event in my home town in November. I'll be striving to get something close to quality of Young's presentation.

Have to agree with those are not feeling the era, its a great figure all the same.

Don't think that would do it. He looks too hard bitten for an innocent Pal of the Somme. But my comment is somewhat picky and its still a great bust.

Sorry to have to pick you up there Colin but the bust depicts a Lance Corporal of 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, a regular battalion that had already fought in the Gallipoli campaign where they were awarded the famous "six VC's before breakfast" so there's every chance he was hard bitten.

I can understand the comments about it not looking of the period but the comments do demonstrate just how much the Pals battalions, innocents etc. are ingrained into our collective heads.

A great looking bust of period that I am very interested in, I think his face looks fine for the Great war, one of the more older blokes that fought at the somme,they were not all fresh faced lads, the only thing I can see that looks wrong are the lance/cpl rank markings, which can be a very easy alteration to carry out, sorry to be so picky but this is a time period that is bit of passion for me.

Superb sculpting! What a face! So much character captured in the talented sculpting! I agree with Roger - I have no problem seeing that face on a war-weary LCpl. Unfortunately I also have to agree with Jimbo about the stripes themselves, but that would be a minor correction.

Good point Roger. If so, I back down. If he is 1st LF and reg force I can buy the face a bit more. But then perhaps the model should have been advertised as such rather than generic Somme. Obviously I don't know my 4th Amy reg and div flashes well enough yet.

I will get one and will adjust it to represent a soldier of my Gr Uncle's Bn - 19th LF (3rd Salford Pals) and I may "play" with the face a bit. Sadly I still am on the search for a photo of my Gr. Uncle but I remain hopeful.
