Hello Gerard, Fastastic painting. The face is unbelievable, very lifelike. The shading and highlights, along with your color choices, really make him stand-out. Excellent work Gerard. Regards, SG(y)

    Very nice work mate.
    Superb all round.
The skin looks great and the wooden stock of the pistol is extremely noteworthy.

Many thanks for your comments, guys. I'mglad you like it!

Brian, I always use just acrylics.

Hendryk, good point there. I've just painted the handle just like in the box art. I guess I should do a little of researh to find out what kind of material it is made of and try to solve it.

Thanks David, I highly recommend it.

The knife handles the Cossacks were mostly very beautifully with silver clasps.

    Perhaps something along these lines!

I have my doubts whether the form of the dagger clutch corresponds precisely to historical models, for this I will leave out this weapon at my version and substitute it by something else.

However, I have picked out to You a picture from a russian source, which shows a similar Cossack's dagger from the 17th century...:

I've googled a little and that "T" shaped handle of the dagger seems to be very common on Jambiyas (ottoman daggers) ph-0.jpg

Yes, as a booty weapon it may be possible - even if the clutch is ot exactly similar and these daggers mainly occurred and occur in Yemen...

My version will get a Nagaika-whip, which I will scuplt myself.

    Cheers

Yes, I will start in a few weeks and then write a "construction- and painting-diary", in which I show my daily progress and failures accurately.

This will then be read in this forum - and, as far as I tell already:
There will be several rather drastic alterations to the bust.

And I will write something about the History of the Zaporozhian Cossacks.

Right now I am still in the detail-research ...

    Cheers
