After a long break, I restarted this big guy from last week. Still rough painting, 70% maybe. Painting this scale is really painful, take a long time to paint and requires a big amount of paints.

My painting style is applying thin layers of acrylics over and over and over again until it looks good.
And, I have small breaks after every brush strokes to wait it dries completely.
so since this figure is huge I don't see much progress easily like smaller scales.

Hard work on such a large scale but it's obviously paid off for you. He looks great.

Great to see you are back on this figure. The scale itself is intimidating and I can only imagine how difficult is to brush paint the layers. Have you perhaps though of using super-fine airbrush for initial shading?

That's looking really good Kaz. That is one huge figure! I can only imagine how much effort it is to paint such a large area in acrylics. Oils give me the freedom to paint like on a canvas in such scales. I can remember trying to use enamels long ago for a large figure, not an easy proposition. I recon that's why I never ventured to acrylics and headed straight for the oils. You are a brave sole my Brother. Keep er rollin, lookin great!

I used airbrush for base color from highlight area but not shading. just a clue for the brush painting.

That's good for you.

You cannot use "blending" techniques on acrylics like oils so I use "Applying thinned layers" techniques which take a long time to see the targeted color.
BTW, "painful" was not a right word to describe my feeling. I'm having "FUN", of course!

Hello Kaz, What a stunning figure you are creating! Your layering technique is unbelievable on such a large scale project. After viewing this incredibility realistic figure several times, I must ask you, did you consider or, are you planning to, give this figures uniform a wet look, coming out of the water? I also like the obstacle and barbed wire on the beach groundwork, nice touch without distracting from the main subject. Kaz, a definite Best of Show if you display it in any event. Regards, SG

Yes I'm planning to give a wet look, but not all over the uniform. Wet look is a bit challenging for me.

I'm making this figure for some kind of events from the start, to add something different, to make the show more interesting.
Large scale figure is hard to make it look "not dull looking big doll", so that's the challenging part.

I like the contrast between the bright face and dull colored uniform. Makes the face even more prominent.
