    Hello everybody,
Here's my finished grenadier of Saintonge in the 1776 regulation uniform.
It's been a fun journey to paint this lad since i've changed the "Aurore" tones 4 times and finally came up with a color that i think it represents what i believe to be "Aurore" facings for this regiment.
The whole combination between the orange/yallow and sky blue makes this uniform an interesting one.
This time i took pictures with my phone , so it is a little different from previous figs but i think it show details enough to see colors.
On the first pic the figure was 90% finished , hands were not highlighted and shadowed and figure were not topcoated with dullcote , but it shows great detail on the face , the seams between the body and arms were not finished and detailed yey when i took the pic.
The rest of pics are of the finished "product" .
PS: for color references please go back to the previous post of the saintonge , otherwise any question i will be more than happy to help :)
    cheers

Superb, Daniel. Nice uniform choice, accurate colors, nice white, aurore and blue( Pre 1779 rgulation). I think the work you have made in the face is really good. The grenades of the turnbacks should be red, I think. The distinctive color is only for the "fleur de lis" of the fusiliers.

    This one looks fantastic!!!
I don't know if it's the pics but everything seems to really "pop"... great colours, especially the aurore. What I really noticed this time is the wood grain on the musket stock, looks great... please share your technique.

    Well done

    Cheers

Hi Eduardo , i red a variety of sources and most of the m indicate the also grenadiers wore a grenade in the facing color.
If you look historex thay have a grenadier of the royal Deux-onts with red grenade badges instead of yellow (the facing color) and i believe the illustrator is eugene Leliepvre , but other than that i have to believe the wore grenades in the facing color.
I can tell you that from the reg. of 1786, and then 1791 they wore for sure red regardless of facing colors, and remained like that for the rest of napoleonic wars.
thanks for your imput and comments always welcome my friend :)

I think is the phone camera ( Blackberry) that makes this colors pop and pics are actually not bad.
I learnt the woodgrain the hard way ,after few trials i came to the conclution that the simplest the better.
One technique was painting the base color in vallejo yellow ochre , paint some "wood" pattern with vallejo grman brown/black and then apply vallejo woodgrain (transparent) 70828.
But the color was very "reddish" and it did not really look bad but the following looks better:
Base: yellow ochre (vallejo) , then use vallejo Smoke 70939 , i first diluted 2 drops of distilled water to 1 drop of smoke.
then for darker areas just use 1/1 ratio and build up the color as desired.
It actually gives a really nice and realistic look and color than the Vallejo woodgrain that leans more towards the mahogany brown/red.
Try it and you'll love it.

You´re right about the grenades, Daniel, as I see in your filie above,( Thank you, it´s very interesting) they were coloured in the distinctive colors too.
One of the sources I use to look at, "Uniforms of the American revolution" Mollo, McGregor, shows red grenades on turnbacks for grenadiers.

    Thanx Daniel,
That seems pretty straight forward. Is there another colour I can use in place of smoke? If smoke is a wash maybe i can dillute something that has a similar tone... I don't know

Yes Eduardo , i've got those illustration form you.
As we said before ,the various sources have conflicting info , but i am almos positive the turnback badges were in the facing color.
Thanks again for looking at my thread and all your help and research on the uniforms
    Saludos

Colin, just buy Vallejo Smoke and you will not regret.
It's not a wash since the texture is like a regular vallejo paint but when you apply onto the surface it create or leave these texture . To works like magic :)
