Why it must again be a Templar, and then again with errors?

Templars wore no gloves, dignitaries besides craftsmen and church. This is well defined!
Is it so difficult to search the easy times, or questions??

Modeling and pose I like, but you gave the impression it only in the Holy Land Templar and nothing else!

    Cheers

I like it. Hendryk, surely you´re right. Anyway, when I paint this figure, maybe next month, I will paint it without gloves. It wil be esy to remove the crease of the glove to the wrist.

    Hi Edoardo

This is certainly true, but not the purpose. Why can not avoid such mistakes as a manufacturer from the outset?
Finally, we have to pay good money for collectors and then again I do not want to invest more time and sometimes money to get it right!
The issue is not new, and therefore the more annoying!

    Cheers

Sadly some manufactures go for what will sell/look good rather than what is accurate, not that you can totally blame them but they shouldn't present them as historical figures IMO

    In the desert ?

That said I recall my dad saying when he was stationed in Egypt just after WWII his mother thought he'd been out in the sun too long when he wrote home asking for a balaclava and gloves (It gets very cold at night in the desert)

The Codex of the Knights Templar is a very close look and handed down.
The dress code says that the gloves could be worn only by craftsmen and church dignitaries of the Order.

@ Eduardo - that is ok - but you know what i mean . It just annoys me, this superficiality!

The problem is when such mistakes are replicated by other sculptors/painters. How many templar "knights" do you see painted with a white surcoat & black cloak following the box art produced for a Pegaso 90mm Templar a few years ago.

I'm painting Pegaso's crusader bust. Am I right in thinking white surcoat and cloak?

I'm no expert on the crusades but I was always under the impression that Templars wore black surcoat with white cross, Hospitallars (spelling?) wore white surcoat with red cross and the Teutonic Orders wore white with black crosses. Like I said no expert... just how I remember seeing it years ago and it stuck with me. I've been wrong before:rolleyes:

That being said, as a sculpt this is a beautiful piece (historical accuracy aside) with a very characterful pose. Looks like the painting possiblities could be challenging. Not my era, but a nice figure just the same.

One question, have the makers forgotten the are other medieval warriors besides crusading Templars? Maybe 100 years war, War of the Roses or German or Italian knights in their splendid plate armour. Doesn't the surcoat and chainmail become monotonous?

Carl, yep you're OK with that.

Colin, simplistically Templar knights white/red cross, Hospitallers black or red/white cross & Teutonics white/black cross.
The Templars are a bit of a minefield with their various prescriptions concerning gloves, facial hair etc.
I agree there is a very wide scope for many more medieval figures beyond the Crusades.

Nice piece, pity it's not a colorfull subject . The guy is wearing gloves because he has a skin disease .

You could argue that by the 13th century mail sleeves were generally wrist length with or without mail mittens attached you could also argue that by that time hemets had a flatter top than that depicted.
You coud argue that the order's standard was black over white without any cross and there is evidence that shields were painted the same, or white with a small red cross in the top left hand corner.
Or you could accept that the crusades happened nearly a 1000 years ago and these things are open to arguement.
This is an excellent figure and if your'e unhappy that he is wearing gloves you could always paint him as a secular knight of the kingdom of Outremer you can find plenty of examples of the various coats of arms on wikipedia

I agree with petermh but the second knucle of the fourth finger of the left hand is to short for that ... :)
You could also decide it's a fantasy army : like Arch-Lord's Leodan's Color Bearer and paint Mona Lisa on the flag with a green flesh tone .
Or simply follow the instructions on the box ; it's a nice figure .
