A slight modification of the Spartan resin bust of the Pegaso range http://www.pegasomodels.com/image_view.asp?id=874&img=1 into Athenian general of the 5th c BC.

His rich gear, certainly was not in use by any Spartan military personel. Thus, a simple rotation of the plume and a half building the wooden stand of it, the figure changed on the realistic appearance and transformed into a rich Athenian officer. Because of his proud attitude and pose, I imagined Cimon, Miltiades' victor of Marathon son , as the head of the Greek campaign against the Persians and especially at the battle of Eurymedon river of Ionia, at 468 BC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimon) .
Another possible and more-impressive-bit variant is the bonding of the helmet in open position. The face has a wild and aggressive appearance. In this case some sculpting contribution is nesessary in the nose and cheeks, because are the points covered pressed and deformed by the helmet.
The figure is not complete; some corrections (mainly highlights), the leather components of thorax, the decoration of plume stand and highlights and shadows in the plume. The painting was atistic oils on acrylic substrate. Against annoying satin finish of the oils, my ally is now the spray varnish, Flat of " Mr. Super Clear ".
Any criticism and comment, as always welcome.

Interesting reworking & painting on this one Theo, didn't even recognise it initially as the Pegaso base.

I like how you have toned down to more realistic colours in this one, just seems to make it seem right.

Only thing that would niggle me is the attachment of the crest to the helmet, perhaps a little putty to more cleanly connect this. However not sure how this was affixed to the helmet so may be quite practical what you have here.

This doesn't detract from an impressive presentation of a notable subject.

Appreciate you sharing this one too.

Beautiful work. I love the rich but subdued colour palette you use. Can you give the mix for the greenish shirt please?
    Cheers

Paul, I do n't keep track of the colours I used while painting figures; so, I cannot recall in my mind the exact mixture for the green shirt. But I remember very well that I used as a base the No327 "Italian Tankcrew" of the Vallejo's series "Panzer aces".

Very nice conversion and unusual to see oils used by Athens modellers ! generally acrylic enthusiasts :) ( nothing wrong with that)
Interesting choice of matting agent I have never heard of that stuff whom is it marketed under Theo as an oil painter myself always on the look out
    for this kind of product.
Nice paint and conversion on an expensive bust(y)
