WIP Critique Youngs 1/9th SS Totenkopf officer

    An oldie but I fancied doing him as I still love painting Germans.
    This is the story so far with this guy.
    tried a few different colours with the field grey such as yellow for highlights and browns for shadows instead of my usual green grey and dark greens.
    The face was done with brown sand/ red basecoat, pre-shaded with shadows of brick red/base colour and highlights light flesh/base colour.
    Oils then applied over that which included raw umber, burnt sienna, zinc white, yellow ochre, blue and red.
    I still need to do the eyebrows, hair catch light, eyelids and finish the leather as well as the regalia and add his hand.

    The leather coat looks tops! you abandoned the acrylics then:) once an oil man always one :LOL:

    Cheers Ron, I've only done two faces with acrylics and that was stripping and painting them again several times. I think a lot of acrylic faces have a cartoon appearance. I much prefer the oils.
    The rest of the bust is acrylics.
