I have just completed the Alexandros Models 200mm resin kit of Napoleon which was released just before xmas last year,as soon as i saw the review on PF i was blown away,i've painted many napoleons in the last 20yrs and this is the best one since David Grieve's waterloo comanders series, the kit was given to me last xmas and i've only just got round to completing it.
The kit is produced in resin at 200mm scale and comes in 4 parts which also includes a very nice napoleon crest which could be used for display purposes,it is very nicely packaged in a small box with a colour photo of the completed model, the kit No is R24,the parts have minimal clean up and fit together very well with hardly any filler required.
The box art shows napoleon wearing his favourite green uniform of the Mounted Chasseurs of the Imperial Guard, however i decided to paint mine in the uniform of Colonel of the Imperial Guard Foot Grendiers (Blue with White Facings),the only reason i chose this was its my favourite Napoleonic Regiment.
The kit is beautifuly sculpted with some amazing detail on the chest medals (Leigon d'honneur and the order of the iron crown)these are very well sculpted and paint up beautifuly.
The white facings of the uniform ned to be done to an off white colour so you get 2 different shades of white between the uniform and the waistcoat,i achieved this by mixing Tittanium white with very small amounts of umbers and ochre colours until i achieved tha off white creamy colour i was looking for, when i'm painting whites i like a softer shade so it dosent look to harsh and i tried to achieve this on the facing, the waistcoat was done with tittanium white with small amounts of paynes gre added again until i was happy with the result, some painters like the harsh look when shading white, its just a personal preferance.
I have some excellent books on the emperor and was looking for a campaign sort of look with perhaps some 5 o'clock shadow present,i found some excellent photo's of paintings with this present in the book 'Napoleon - History and Myth' by Gerard Gengembre,a brilliant read for anyone interested in the emperor.
All flesh painting as with the uniform was done with oils over acrylic undercoats and black primer, all acrylic paints were from the Games Workshop Range and the primer was GW chaos black.
The Redincote or greatcoat worn by napoleon on campaign was completed using different oil mixes of blacks / umbers / white / ochre's,the epaulettes were gold and sometimes threaded with red cotton / silk.
The buttons were painted with GW chaos black undercoat follwed by Humbrol 16 gold, when the gold was dry i mixed humbrol 16 gold with silver ink and painted the top halfs of each button with this, once this had dried i finished each button with a catchlight of silver ink,the same was done for the epaulettes.
The headress was completed using lamp black as a base followed by adding small amounts of umber and white,i wanted to be subtle here as i did'nt want a grey hat i wanted the worn look but still black if you know what i mean .
To sum the kit up,i found it a real enjoyment to paint up and i'm really pleased to have it in my figure collection.

I hope you enjoy the photo's,i'm still trying to take decent ones ,all coments and critism are always welcome.

    Happy Painting
    Brian (y)

Hi Brian, great job on this mate. All of the colour choices are interesting, superb finished result. I think this is the best bust of Napoleon produced so far and certainly one on the buy list.

Great work Brian. Have this one on the shelf and took it out when I saw your painted version.
Well, it's gotta wait because there are more figures to be done.
