    Hi Jon

    what can I say?
As a German I have with this chapter of our history is a problem, especially when it comes to camp and stuff goes.
Your character makes me hit the one hand, on the other hand, I have to look verylong.
I congratulate you on the realistic painting.

    Cheers

Very well done and poignant. Is this based on a film character?

No comment, for the simple reason it should not have been done this way.
I think it is a very sensitive period for the world and in my opinion you made a character of the people who sufferd.
That's the only thing i wanna say about it.

Dear Marc, I understand your point of view but I constest, because I think, this cruel and inhuman part of history should never be forgotten... and in addition, must always speak the truth and show it to younger generations and those who still blindly say that never happened, so I think this piece is brilliant.
    Congratulations to the author.

Tough call here the figure I like, on the other hand title I dunno, it comes across as a bit sarcastically mocking, I'm sure it wasn't intended that way but that is how it scans to me at least.

This is a very brave model to do , its so very right in all ways , like Hendryk I too put my hands together and congratulate you .

The painting is great , especially the flesh , the clothing might look even better if made more worn looking . really like the glasses (I have visited the camps and seen the piles of glasses .. a true sadness at what happened came over me especially then and I am not afraid to admt I had tears in my eyes).

I would love to paint one of these as well

This is something we should never forget that happened like Pedro has posted .

    Thank you for posing

From the "technical" point of view your work displays a very high standard. On the striped uniform of the victims sometimes a cloth stripe was fastened and displayed the number of the prisoner

About the character itself - not the subject - I am not sure. It is in my eyes too close to the border towards a "comic-style" character - the little rat or bird on his shoulder adds to this impression - and I am sure that this was not your intention . But it is very difficult to show suffering and horrors in the face of a bust in a realistic way. Therefore this is a daring project in many ways and I wish that you finally succeed to bring across what you want to say.

As a German I think that NO part of history should be forgotten and sometimes it is healthy to realize while painting up another small soldier with a splendid uniform that there is not any time in history and war without victims and cruelties.

I think the painting is fantastic, the subject matter sensitive but IMO nothing wrong with capturing the atrocities of history as we do this in all our painting ( or the vast majority) but I do not like the title it brings an awful image of innocent people seeing a sign that must have brought some momentary relief before being murdered. Those words play on my mind more than the subject matter for some reason!

Anyway a lovely piece of art, executed superbly well, just maybe tweak the title?

Great work, i like it, but he has a cartoonish chacacter. The spanish comrades prisoners in nazi camps, wore a similar distintive in the chest, a red triangle with a "S" inside, that is, Red Spanish. I see your bust is a (Tschechen) Czecoslovak.

To the title of this bust one should perhaps say that this text has stood over the entrance of the "concentration camp Buchenwald."

To my knowledge, this phrase was at the entrance to Auschwitz,

It was at the main entrance on every KZ. The only exception was Buchenwald with Jedem das Seine.

As long as Waffen-SS-Figures are topsellers, it won't.

Is this a slight conversion of JMD's Croque Le Mormitaine, creative. I agree and disagree with some of the comments, this is and will remain a controversial subject.
