    Hello all

I needed a break from my cavalry diorama so after conscripting a couple more pieces into the grey army, I painted up this one during the last week.

This figure is an Italian (Sardinian) Bersaglieri Officer, 1870, persumably during the attack on Rome. This figure is a 54mm Pegaso, painted in Vallejo acrylics.

Thanks for your concideration, any helpful comments and critiques are most welcome.

    Cheers

Very nice. I like how you did the dark blue!

Funny, looking at the pics I thought you did this in oils....

I love it. Very balanced weathering and nice integration with the groundwork. The posture is very natural and I like how you did the blues.
    Excellent work.

Excellent work on the blue, i especially like the red cuffs, i like the effect of "mute" red .
And the pose is very unusual, which bring interest and character to it.
    Avanti Bersaglieri!

Thanks everybody for your kind words. This was a fun one to paint. A simple figure with lots of character, gave me a chance to work on some of my weaker areas... Shading and highlighting and mixing some colours I haven't done before, like the pinkish red on the turnbacks and the green-black on the plumage.
I got some great feedback on my question in the painting forum re: shade/highlight placement that helped alot on this piece. It's far from dead on but I think it turned out better than some of my previous efforts.
Thanks again for the help and encouragement

    Cheers

    Hi Colin,

Excellent painting of this glorious piece.

If I may, you have painted this as the box art (like I did) unfortunately the box art was wrong in different things.

Few examples, the gloves were always black, the "cremisi" piping on the front wasn't there etc.etc.

I did the same mistakes and amended the figures, if you want to know more, you can look at the first wrong version here : http://giovannimodelling.blogspot.com/2011/02/bersaglieris-officer-italy-1870.html

Here you can find the final and correct version with the mistakes amended: http://giovannimodelling.blogspot.com/2011/03/bersagliere-amended-version.html

Hope it helps, and it took me not too long to repaint what was wrong.

    Ciao

    Thanx Alex
I think I still need a little more darker shadow. The blue is a base of Prussian blue + black, highlighted with base + Prussian blue + sky grey and shaded with base + black.
I got a bunch of resin heads to practice the flesh tones.

    Talk to ya later

I see the differences on the amended figure. You were right, I painted directly from the boxart as I don't know much about this regiment... I just really dig the uniform when I saw it at the shop!
The changes will be easy and I thnk I'll add more weathering... You did a great job on this fig and inspired me to take it a little further.
    Thanks for the advice
