Here's my version of this Young bust that has proven so popular. He is painted with acrylics.

Thanks Mr. barton & Marc. Yeah, he gave up smoking when Phillip Morris burned up in the war. No oils on him, just acrylic. Would oils have been easier for the wood grain?

Some prefer oils Mike. I used woodgrain(transp), with a touch of glaze medium over a light base.

Damn Mike, your're moving thru some figures right now. The wood stock is amazing for acylics. Normally you only get that effect with oils. Can you share you colors and technique.

Very nice all round painting Mike on a somewhat very popular bust atm. I prefer also to use the acrylics for wood grain.I also have one to paint at some point.

    Thanks for sharing

Nice work Mike, like the sombre tones on this one, have you got a gray tone in the flesh area? Also gives me a spur to get cracking on my own one in the next few months. I've got a few ideas to help personalise it & like you may make him a non smoker ;-) Could be a bit radical knowing these guys though :)

Thank you guys for commenting and looking at him. Mike Stevens, I don't think I could type out what I did for the wood grain in a way that is understandable. If I can duplicate it I'll do an SBS on it for the newsletter. Kiwi sir, good to hear from you again. In his flesh there is french blue which is a grey blue, good eye. I would love to see your guy when finished, he really is a fun paint.

    Thank you again!

I think oils would be easier for woodgrain in that scale but I suck with acrylics so what do I know!!
