Many thanks guys for your coments.

I have now made a start on the scenery painting, and also some additions to the figure!

The figure itself is quite heavy and with the eagle attached i felt i needed to add more strength to the piece,to secure the eagle firmly to the left forearm i drilled a small hole down into the fist and inserted some metal rod which i angled coming out of the arm,a matching hole was drilled into the talons / leggs of the eagle which would then accomodate the exposed metal rod,i felt alot more comfortable now, when moving the figure about or taking it to shows i did'nt want to risk any part breaking off which is why i chose the metal rod,i also did the same with the right hand.

Painting was started on the coloum first with base coats of GW stone and bleached bone,i applied 2 coats of each and dried this off with the hairdryer,i now painted the whole coloum and base with sepia oil paint and once completed i used small pieces of sponge to dab the sepia off to create a mottled marble effect on the whole coloum.
I then mixed a very thin amount of acrylic black and painted very thin lines to try and replicate a marbled effect,i followed this with thin acrylic off white and this was painted the same way as the black,i still have some more work to complete on the coloum which i will do in the next sitting.

I also wanted a white marbled floor effect and to try and accomplish this i started with a basecoat of GW stone with a little black added,i applied to coats to the floor and dried off with the hairdryer,i then took GW skull white and again with a small piece of sponge dabbed the white onto the basecoat creating the mottled effect, once dry i again added very thin dark grey and off white lines accross the surface to get that marble effect again, this was then dried off with the hairdryer and a white acrylic wash was applied over the floor surface to blend everthing together.
I used GW foundation battleship grey and outlined each stone and also added this colour where the stone floor was broken.

All coments and critisim welcome,i'll update in a couple of days.

Brian, its looking great now and I like how you attached the eagle to the arm, good thinking. The base really enhances Zeus the way it is built around him, well done.
I had a look last night at the Mount Olympus sites, even the Mythical ones and it makes your whole project that bit more "special".
Looking forward to your next part.

Apologies for the slow updates but i'm working alot a night shifts and i'm sleeping during the days so i hav'nt been able to do as much as i would have liked, however i did manage a couple of hours recently and completed the face and hair,i just need to give the hair a final veil to pull it together,i also painted the base to represent the rock effect i was looking for,i just need to shade the rock abit more before i'll be happy with it.
The main body has been undercoated with GW foundation flesh with a little GW vermin brown added to darken the flesh, this will now be ready to take the final finish coats in oils.

Many thanks guys for your kind coments,as i said before due to work commitments i'm struggling to find any quality time to paint, however i've managed to make a start on the bodywork and toga.

The flesh areas of the body are about 80% complete, all i have to complete are the final highlights and the deep shadow areas.
Flesh colours are mixes of the following:, Burnt Sienna,Tittanium White,Burnt Umber,Raw Sienna,Gold Ochre.

The first stages of the toga are complete, after undercoating with acrylic humbrol off white (this off white colour is from the model railway range of colours) i laid in the medium value colours using a mix of tittanium white and very small amount of umber to get the off white colour,i then left this overnight and then i applied a mix of umber and sepia to the darker areas of the folds, when i'm painting white i find the painting goes better if i leave a day in between coats as if you try to add highlights they get lost within the shading colours and no contrast is then achieved, there is still quite abit of work left to complete on the toga for what i want to achieve.
The toga clothing i have decided to break into two colours,i did'nt fancy an all white look so i'm going for a pale / sky blue colour for the bottom half of the toga,i have undercoated this with 2 light coats of GW space wolves grey,i will finally complete this with the appropriate oil mixes at a later stage.

The next stage i will be focussing on will be the golden eagle which i plan to paint entirely with GW acrylics.

Thanks for following the post guys,i will update in a couple of days.

    Brian
