    Ok pics of butchered hull.

I will be smoothing some area's and also filling holes etc with magic sculpt. I have also opened up the guards on the sides as these are going to be raised to depict damage.

It's tough going as the plastic is sort of durable so the dremel tends to turn the pastic in to rubber as it heats rather than sand down, but it's working so hey ho.

Pedro, thanks for all the excellent information, I really appreciate your input to help with any historical problems.

    Hi Dave,
The two green circles are the armored covers for where the wiring to the headlights exits the hull. They should be removed and a single one placed where the front edge of the jack block is now, with a conduit running to the single light. The jack block should actually be moved back slightly, so that the front edge of it is about 1/3 of the way back from the front edge of the ventilator. That leaves room for the cover. The cover would be right about where the silver edge of the block in the picture sticks out beyond the red circle.
The long pinkish circle is what I believe to be the pry bar used in replacing the track. The red circle is the metal plate, and I really don't know what it is, but have only seen it on early models.I will research more to see if I can discover is purpose, but its not on my mid version or the late versions. Oh, and if you are careful removing the roof top ventilator, you should be able to move it to its new position on the roof with minimum fuss. Just add a weld bead around its base to replicate the real thing, and cover the cut line
    Cheers
    Jason

    Hi Jay

    Thanks for the clarification.

I have removed the flat plate as I cannot see it on any mid Tigers either. I have also removed the pry bar and filled in the holes etc.

I will remove the Jack box and scratch build a new one to sit where it should be (this sanding, filling takes time lol)

I have also highlighted in the next pic the two holes, which look to be alternative places for headlights? I'll need to remove and fill these.

A little bit more progress in cleaning the hull and I have also test fitted the the Aluminium barrel with Muzzle brake. Ignore the cupola as this is being removed.

The idea is that I put a whole load of effort in to getting the Tank to a point where I can concentrate on adding all the little details.

    Hi Dave,
    The holes are jib holes
    http://tiger1.info/EN/JibSockets.html

Lots more good info there as well
    http://tiger1.info/vehicle.html
Theres one page that covers the repositioning of the jack block. Here is an excellent ref for the headlight conduit armored cover

    http://tiger1.info/EN/FrontVentilator.html

BTW, I think the muzzle brake on your gun is the type used on later production late Tiger I's. It appears to be more streamlined and less bulbous than the original, and was the same one as used on the Tiger II. It wouldn't be appropriate for a mid. Just FYI.

    Hi Jay

Great info mate it's a real help.

I have ordered the new brake muzzle and I'm glad you spotted it as I had kind of noticed it was a bit different to the original and never twigged that it was the late version. Anyway nice fat bulbous brake on the way.

At the back of the tank where the air intakes are, there is a jack and a toolbox, both are not moulded particularly well so I may well need to redo these.

    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
Just in case you wanted more info
    http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/main.html

    http://www.tiif.de/

Want to detail that jack, go here:
    http://www.panzerbasics.com/
    and look under "equipment"

You may not need to redo the tool box. I can't find it right off the bat, but at some point these were removed from the rear plate during, I believe, the mid-production run. So depending on when yours was built, it may not have had it in the first place. Considering the time frame of yours, its likely to have been a later build without the box.

    Hi Dave,
I can't wait to see this one progress, especially in light of the previous project. I am really intrigued by the gothic window and how you will tackle this (as my father-in-law does stained glass work as a hobby).
Are you going to make it stone framed, wood framed, window from glass or painted acetate? Any ideas for the subject choice on the window?
I think with your chioce of figures you can't go wrong. Can't help on the Tiger would not know a Mk1 from a Mk2 even if it kicked me up the arris.
I'm sure we will see some scavenged flora and fauna.
Very best wishes and good luck with this project.
    cheers

    Hi Jay

Brilliant stuff mate, you really are a massive help.
Yes you are correct I have had a google and consulted my "modelling the Tiger 1" book and the tool box is gone for the mid/late versions so very glad as it needs a complete rework.

The jack needs a lot of work and although it will be tucked in a corner I do not want to cut corners. The later metal tracks have arrived today and I have also ordered 18 spare links for the fronts and side.

I'm away on business tonight so having a night off but will continue tomorrow night by removing the Jack box and reworking. Big brake muzzle is winging its way to me.

The box on the turret needs some attention as the detail is average so may call upon Aber for this.

    Thanks a lot Jay

    Hi Richie

    Thanks for dropping in.

The stain glass window will be large. I will use very thin plastic as the glass, download an appropriate stained galss, adjust the size via photocopier and then trace on to glass. I will use very thin wire and hammer flat to use as lead and then paint the individual colours using glass paint.

I use to make stain glass windows from around 16 to 18 for my late fathers business so I have a good understanding.

Its one of the things I am most looking forward to. The window is a 1/12th wooden mould Yas per shape drawn) from a dolls house supplier.

    Thanks Mate

    Hi Dave,

    What a brilliant project!

Looks like you're gonna have a lot of fun with this one. I'm having a bash at something similar, and didn't realise what a minefield the variants of the Tiger could be. Nearly takes all the fun out of it!

I did find this photo of '411' on Phil Appleyard's site, and it does look to my untrained eye that it has the late pattern steel wheels?

I don't know if you have Marcel Zwarts' book that has photos of S.Pz.Kp. Hummel at Arnhem in September '44 (see the bridge in the background!), but I've taken a couple of snaps to show you. I can send you some hi-res scans if you like. Hans Hummel's Tigers were 14 strong at Arnhem, then down to 8 by December 1944.

This is a fun project, and I'll be following every post!

    Cheers,
    Jon.

Re: 1/16 "Tiger In Wait" 506, 4 Kompanie, 1944 Ardennes Offensive

    Hi Jon

That is fantastic stuff matey, some quality informatoon and pictures there. If I need to upgrade the wheels then I can so if someone can confirm that lates ate rqd then not a problem but ill do my own research and if needed I could waus change the number.

The big challenge is balancing the accuracy with the fun and I need to make sure I'm not in that horrible place where you feel you are putting together something that is an absolute replica but is no fun.

Key thimg here is I have to get as close as I can (happy with 90%) before adding all the detail and paint because its too late so I need to feel the pain now to accomplish something special.

With your help it makes life a lot easier.

    Cheers
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

This is my little Tiger project, based on Bill Cotton's (4th CLY) handiwork in Villers-Bocage!

    A tiger late of 1/SS.S.Pz.Abt.101 and a Pz.IV Ausf H of 6/II/130 Panzer Lehr.

A brilliant project, anything I can do to help, just give me a shout!

    The perfect scale.
    Jon.

Re: 1/16 "Tiger In Wait" 506, 4 Kompanie, 1944 Ardennes Offensive

'411' was a hybrid Tiger, which is an interesting beast in that it had an early turret and hull with a late model steel wheeled running gear. I recall that these were a mating of repair depot parts, and that the hulls may have been destined for Sturmtiger conversion. 'Hummel' had a number of these, 6 being the number that comes to mind. I believe after Arnhem, they received replacement Tiger I's taken from units converting to Tiger II's, which brought the total up to 14 for the Ardennes. Probably the Tiger I's they had were the last operational ones of any number on the Western front. Sorry that I missed in your previous post that yours is going to be 411 or I would have pointed that out. It would actually be even more interesting if you did yours as a hybrid, as they are rarely modeled. Dragon/Cyberhobby models did a 1/35th version boxed as "Gruppe Fehrmann"

    Hi Jay

Late wheels it is then :-D!!!

These are available for a very reasonable price so no problem and they actually look a lot more interesting.

The late tracks are waiting for collection and they are metal so will sit nicely on the wheels.

Can't wait to get back and start bashing again.

    @Jon
That looks like a very nice project mate, why not get a VBench going its always fun to have the interaction.

    Thanks for your support guys.

Re: 1/16 "Tiger In Wait" 506, 4 Kompanie, 1944 Ardennes Offensive

Back home tonight so a bit more work!!

Removed the Jack box and filled (will scratch build a new one)
    Replaced Muzzle with Early version
    Removed smoke canister moulding
Stripped back panel, removed tool box and filled where appropriate(although will be covered in Zimmerit)

Close up pic of Jack that will need some refinement!

I note the previous pics have the early copula but I am replacing with the late version, just because I like it much better, so i may have to re-think the number????

The other biggy is the ball mount for the MG, you can see it looks wrong as its got a funny lip that sticks out but if you look at Tigers, this is usually a clean hole for the MG so I think it needs taking out and a new one put in.
