This is my latest completed figure. It is a 90mm Bonopates French Line Lancer sculpted by Alan Ball. This is my first attempt to paint non metalic metals, but the silver was so bad I went over it with Vallejo steel. I was happy with the helmet, but I don't like the sword hilt at all. The entire figure is done in acryllics. Please offer positive critisim so that I may improve my painting skills. The casting seemed a bit rough. Is this usual with Bonoparte models? This was my first one from that company. Thanks for looking,

Excellent job of painting the highlights and shadows of the green.

Aaarrggghh, Cap'n Petey, nice do. That helmet is very good. I prefer a little more highlights on the face, which means deeper shadow too, but the face you have done is great as it is. And good green.--

Hi Pete, your right, the helmet looks great, perhaps just go over the sword hilt with a gold wash of some sort (thinned gold printers ink) to bring out that metallic look. Non metallic metal painting looks difficult and daunting, something I haven't had the balls to try yet, kudos to you for giving it a go! Personally I like the groundwork/grass to be painted, but that's just me. The uniform looks wonderful and great use of the acrylics there.

Hi Pete. The shading of the green is very well done. The face shows the expression of pain, and all in all its a very nice clean job. Dont beat yourself up, you've done a great job.

Seriously? I think the figure looks great. Especially the "golds". What was your mix for the green uniform? I'm certianly interested in that .

The face works for me because of the visor on the helmet. More highlights and more shadows? Ehhhhh, maybe, if that's what you're after. Like I said, it works for me.

Like Jazz said. Don't beat yourself up. You should be proud of this figure. It looks great!

Looks like a very good job.
I find the non-metallic metals very well done. I wonder if a gloss coat would help to enhance metalness further...? On the other hand, gloss may ruin the painted highlights and reflections.
The green is indeed particularly well done.

Wow Scott. The groundwork is painted. Maybe it's just the angle of the pictures. Everything was grey to start with. Thank you for the compliments. Jon Harbuck suggested a thin wash of burnt umber oil to add a sheen to the NMM.

Jim, old friend, nice of you to say so. As for the green, I used black green (70980) as the base. I added a touch of red ((70947) to grey it out. For highlights, I added yellow (70953) and for shadows I added German camblack brown (70822), a color Jason Green introduced me to and I like it very much for shadows.

Adrian, I am going to try the thin burnt umber suggestion and if it works, I'll post another picture. Thanks for your suggestion and comments.
