    Hi Everyone,

I have just purchased this brilliant kit from a small Garage/Cottage industry company called Mental Malfunction Studio ( www.mentalmalfunctionstudio.com ) sculpted by the owner Derek Miller. It is a bust/half figure of the legendary Medusa from Greek mythology. The scale is very close to 1/10th or 6 3/4 inches high from the bottom of the base to the fingers of the outstretched arm. The detail and castings are up there if not better than most of the top figure manufacturors on the market today.

I wont give a mythological rundown as there are many differing tales of who and what Medusa was, but it seams that the sculptor has adopted for the legend that she was a beautiful woman, who later turned into the monster we all know.

The kit doesnt come in a box other than what it is posted in but was very well packaged with the parts protected in newspaper. (It was sent from USA to Australia with no problems). It comes in 7x resin parts, 5x parts for Medusa herself in a green resin, 1x nameplate in the same resin, and a base depicting a crumbling Greek Column in a grey resin. The resin looks to be a nice consistancy being not too hard and not too soft.

    Conclusion

When I received this kit, I was so pleasantly surprised. The sculpting is very well done, the overall figure is smooth and poised in a sexy, alluring pose. Her jewellery and clothing is finely sculpted and suits the mythological age. All the snakes are differing in size giving more visual pleasure, they have also been sculpted with different scale patterns, and poses. It is very well cast with only one or two very, very fine mould lines (I was surprised with this), and only a few small air bubbles to contend with, these being in the snakes and will be easy to fix.

All the parts fit together with no major gaps, the first photos in this review are of the pieces just fitted together, no blu-tac involved and I am pretty sure I wont need to use putty when building it either. I will probably paint it in sections for ease.

The colour scheme is up to the painter to go as wild or subtle on as they wish. I highly recommend this kit. If you like this, go to the website and have a look at some of the other busts/figures available in his range. I may get one or two others yet.

I cant wait to get started on this one

    Regards,

I hope this doesn't upset my US brethren, but she reminds me of the Statue of Liberty. Superb details,

Got her ordered and $35 does seem like a bargain. That guy has some talent for sculpting. I'm book marking his page so I can keep an eye out for new stuff. Is her left hand sculpted into the snakes? I couldn't find it in the pictures.

BTW, her dress is screaming for a sheer look. I have her almost totally painted in my head already.

Hi ya Mike, yes, her hand is sculpted into the snakes, like how a female will push her hair when combing it back with her fingers. Hope this makes scense.
As for the sheer look, I'm already onto it, have half done the skin tones and will be doing this bit next.
Derek has also informed me that a new sculpt is on the way but hasn't alluded as to what it is yet.
