Hans Joachim von Zieten is my next project I will be working on. It's going to be 54mm figure, the painting below will be used as a reference for the figure.

    Some background (source from wikipedia):
Hans Joachim von Zieten (May 14, 1699 – January 26, 1786), also known as Zieten aus dem Busch, was a cavalry general in the Prussian Army. He served in numerous wars and battles during the reign of Frederick the Great. He was a small man with a high voice, which probably was reason of his quick temper. He liked to drink and was extremely defensive about his shortcomings.
When the Seven Years' War broke out in 1756, Zieten had just been made lieutenant-general. At Reichenberg and at Prague, he held important commands, and at the disastrous Battle of Kolin (June 18, 1757) his left wing of cavalry was the only victorious corps of troops. At Leuthen, one of the most brilliant battles of the 18th century, Zieten's cavalry began the fighting and completed the rout of the Austrians. In June 1758 he was sent to protect a convoy with supplies for the army besieging Olmütz, but could not prevent it from being completely destroyed at Domstadtl. Despite that he continued, during the whole of the war, to be one of Frederick's most trusted generals.

For the horse I used some resin parts, which needs some corrections. The head is a metal part which will be further adjusted match the general. The rest of the figure is sculpted using Magic Sculp and Duro. Here are some pictures of the first steps.

Thanks for looking and comments and critiques are welcome!

    Cheers,
    Marcel.

I think you're off to a great start. I'm attempting to do a similar job on a
54mm ECW Roundhead Cavalryman. And for me, this small scale is so
difficult to work with when you're talking about a major figure conversion.

I wish you well, admire your courage, and hope to see more updated
photos as you progress with the interesting equestrian figure.

    Hello Marcel!!
I think he has made a good start and the anatomy of the rider but also the attitude of the horse is amazing!
I think the miniatures is a larger scale than the horse .. looked at or what did the miniature minutes may not seem that difference!
Very good effort and fought another, it is interesting subject.
    Good luck on this issue

Thanks for commenting Jay, Alexandros, George, Christos and Mitsutaka!

Alexandros: I will check the scale again with my template but I think that the scale of horse and rider is correct.

    Cheers,
    Marcel.

Thanks Gordy, Steve, Marc, Ken, Pedro and John! I will post more pictures when I have some more work done.

Steve: Still lots of work to do but I divide it it in small steps.

Marc: When I see all this beautiful sculpted figures I want to try it myself also. Let's hope I succeed. I want to visit the world expo this year so probably no Euro for me.

    cheers,
    Marcel.

I made a little bit of progress with this figure. The two rear feet of the horse were sculpted. The neck of the horse is now fixed on the torso and I sculpted the saddle. It took me some sculpting, carving and re-sculpting to made the rider fit good on the horse. Also some details on the boots are added. The next step will be finishing the horse.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome!

    Cheers,
    Marcel.
