This is Falkar from Andrea 54mm. painted in acrylics and my first go at NMM's. The base is turned Manzanita root that I picked up at the Hussar. I almost hated to put the snow over the natural edge but had to do it. let me know what you think good or bad.

He looks great Mike. I like the colors you used. What is NMM? Also would love to see a photo with the whole base showing if possible.

NMM is non metallic metals. Must be a mini painter abbreviation, that's where I picked it up. Glad you like him even though he is in the fantasy genre. I'll get a pic of the base. glad you asked.

    Thanks Jay!

Damn bro its good! I hope your bringing it to Tulsa! I see you have been venturing outside of bust work lately! Really great stuff bro!
How about a little SBS on how you did the NWM work! I really struggle with NWM and have not seen a good NWM SBS that makes sense.

    +1 Agreed (y)

Quite a multi-texture piece, fur, wood, metal!

I really do like the non-metallic metal style, it 'shimmers' and is more effective in scale better than metallic paint which looks painted.

Thanks jason, Thanks gordy. Jason I hated busts at first then it was all I painted, I like full figures a little better because of the scene you can create with the groundwork. Mcsneed, it was kind of a trial by error so it is a convaluted mess of every color you can think of but I'll give it a go.

for the gold i base coated in burnt sienna then worked in raw sienna for the midtone till it was pure raw sienna. for highlites I started adding in naples yellow until pure naples yellow, then used white in the mix for the highest highlite until a line of pure white for the shine. i went in and added extreme shadows with violet to match it to the cape.

The white metal was way harder. I base coated in a dark grey then deep shadows with violet (to match the cape) working in highlites with any light blue you got then adding the shine and glints with pure white.

I think I need to put a gloss or matte varnish over the metal parts to create a little more realism.

It didn't turn out like I wished it would but i am going to keep trying it till i get it right. i wouldn't dare do an SBS till I can do the technique some form of justice.

Wow I thought you did it with acrylics bro! Seems all the fantasy guys use acrylics but I am more of an oil guy and I think you did a great job on the metals. I look forward to seeing it at Tulsa!

Mike this looks really good. I like the purple cloak and the NMM. I've only tried that a couple of times with mixed results. Hopefully you'll have him at the next meeting.

    Mike,
I too like the purple. It is great to do a fantasy for a change.

So did you design the shield motif or was it cast that way? It is probably my eyes but it seems to me you have found a genre that speaks to you. Fine job, Mike!

Thank you so much for the comments guys, I really appreciate it. the shield design was something I added to it to make it a little different. yes Steven, the non historical figures have something i like where I can do whatever I feel like as far as colors and designs. The purple was really fun to paint and was a gift from my friend Dimitrios. thank you again, it means a lot that you stopped by and had a look.
