Here are two more of my completed Native American busts. Both are sculpted by Carl Reid. The first is Young Miniatures Blackfoot Raven Bearer. I made a few changes by adding the raven feathers in his hair and painted the face to look like a painting by Kirby Sattler. The second is the SK Miniatures Jicarilla Apache. I painted it just like the box art since it was taken from a painting by Thomas Mails in his book The Mysitic Warriors of the Plains and I loved the blanket. It was difficult to paint but I think it turned out pretty good. I hope you like them.

Both stunning pieces, great work with additions for historical accuracy. The Jicarilla's blanket is very neatly done.

Excellent Mike, you've got a real feel for this subject. It shows in your handling of these two busts.

Superb works, Mike! I like how you did not make a point of the subject being quite purposedly lit.

To me, the second completed piece naturally informs more regarding your insights and approaches on lighting, which in turn allows the viewer to appreciate the relative absence of "Contrasts" of the first one.

Interesting to know that it can be rewarding to underdo this in certain circumstances. A good lesson leant.

Hokahey! Just wonderful...the Jicarilla is just outststanding. Well done on both...congratulations on these two beauties...
Care to share the info on where you got those two bust bases to show them off so well? That's exactly what I'm looking for...

    bases

First, I would like to thank everyone for their kind remarks. I had been away from painting figures and busts for several years. I was doing WW II model airplanes and keeping my hand in figures by doing 1/48 scale figures to display with the planes. I am now back into busts and am really enjoying them. Your remarks make it even more worthwhile. Actually, these two bases came from Thomas Art Bases. I purchased several many years ago and just got around to using the last ones. Unforturnatly, he does not make this type of base anymore. I now get my bases from John Jefferies of Birch Tree Enterprises.

I saw John and his stuff at L.I.; has some good ones, but not like these.I don't think anyway...if he did i missed them...the ones I did get were much shorter.

IIRC, he had a couple like this when I saw him, but he was early on my shopping list. There were definitely a couple with rods in them for busts. I've been using his buckey burl bases for my busts.

Brand new here, but thought this was a great place to start. I really like these two and am particularly taken with the Blackfoot bust.
