Jon ... Thanks for the info :) And I will get around to buying that book sometime ( I have 3 Fallschirmjager on the go now ) :)

    Ken ... Thanks again :)

    David ... Many thanks :)

    Bone-sacks and blutac ....

I decided on a mix adapted to my available paints of
    2:2:1 of
AV Olive Drab : AV Russian Uniform : AV Sunny Skin Tone

Blutac was used to mask the face off ;)

I sprayed AV Olive Drab as the base colour and let it set for 24 hours, meanwhile I sorted out the equipment that was left as it will need to block the next layers of lighter paint to form shadows.....

Spraying of the mid and high went without any problems and I'm allowing 24 hours or so for the paint to set as I will need to put blutac finger rests on the figure to get in with the hairy brushes :)

I painted the face on a DES 1/16th bust by Laurent Borget of another Fallschirmjager!

Look at the difference in size! Just look ;)

    pictures ...............

AV Olive Drab down and mounted on a work holder with a little friend :)

And the basic colours added to the jump smock ...

    Hi Mark,

I really like where this is going mate. Just wanted to ask you if the wrist and forearm on the right arm look a little thin and under-sized to you? I couldn't help noticing that they look rather puny in the pics??

I think that the forearms look too long as well.

Tony .... Thank you :) It's possibly the pictures as they look okay side by side :)

Carl .... Blutac in the socket? I learnt my lesson last time ;) will check them soon :)

Dan .... Many thanks and your right this is so you ;)

Stu ... Thanks as always :)

    Onwards!...

I have spent quite some time on the greens of the bonesack. I used a mix of 1:1:2 of my base mix to do some sharp highlights. Added 1 of AV Light Flesh as well to do a final highlight.

Then re worked the Olive Drab into seams and shadows to sharpen things up a bit more...

Finally the base was used to soften the effect and tie it all together ( probably ;) )

Letter sequence for clarity of steps :)

The head will need a couple of tweaks but is essentially finished ...

    A bit of info please!

The tunic? under the jump smock. What colour would it be? I was toying with the
idea of a blue one but think a field grey one is more likely ....

    What do you think????

    :)

According to Osprey painting Fallschirmjäger, blue or field grey.

Thanks for the input everyone :)

I decided to go for the field blue tunic ....

Not entirely satisfied with it yet the colours used are

Base AV German Grey and AV Luftwaffe Uniform WW2 1:1
    Mid AV Luftwaffe Uniform WW2
Top AV Luftwaffe Uniform WW2 and GW Shadow Grey and AV Light Flesh 3:3:1

The Collar tabs are based with AV Burnt umber and then many thin layers of GW Golden Yellow with a tiny drop of AV Burnt Umber added were used to build the colour up.

The insignia were Based with GW Chaos Black, a mid from GW Codex Grey and High was AV Foundation White

    :)

Good call with the blue, adds a bit of colour obviously. You know what I mean.
    Looking good,
    Carl.

    Leathery bits .....

As always I used a multi layered technique to create lots of variation with 4 basic colours...

    based with Burnt Umber
Edges and cracking with a Bright Orange
Edges and more cracks with an Ochre
Fill in the middles with a Mahogany colour..

I reworked some of the edges but I want the belt and Y straps to look maintained but slightly worn Kindathing :)

used a bit of Klear to give some sheen to the leather and built up the shine for the pistol holder..

The MG tool kit got essentially the same treatment as the other Leather but I used a black for the last step to kill the colours

    :)

The patina on the pistol holder is very realistic, I think this will be very impressive when it's finished.

Steve .... Cheers ... Trial and error :)

Tweaking the leather and sorting out the equipment... the water bottle cover is sorted as is it's leather strap. Deepened the black on the MG toolkit too ...

    :)

What caught my eye Mark was the subtlety of the highlighting and shading on the front of the smock, bringing out all the fine details of folds and creases in Maurice's sculpting. The water bottle colour looks good too. Keep up the great work mate.
