    Hi there,

Is there anyone here who tried the new Andrea acrylics thinner. What is your opinion about it ?

First off I'd always recommend trying water. If that doesn't work properly then try other things. Many of the airbrushers in the UK working in the hobby use screen wash.

Most airbrush mediums are intended to help provide additional binding to the paint when heavily diluted, as well as improving flow. Much the same can be done with the addition of a little acrylic medium to the mix, and a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid in the diluting water.

Enion already beat me to it. Water, water, and more water. Just make sure you use distilled water. Ordinary tap water has so many things added to it and you really don't want that being mixed in your paint. A little dishwashing liquid goes a long ways to improving the flow of your paint.

    Einion,
What is screen wash? Used to wash window screens, or is that to obvious?

Phil, here in north america we call screen wash windshield washer fluid (Windex works just as well). Windshields in other parts of the world are known as windscreens.

Jim, tap water is what I use, for brush-application or for spraying. Water hardness may be a factor (very soft water here) so not necessarily any need for distilled or purified water.

Phil, just like Gary says, e.g.

That's funny actually...being born in London, I do call the windshield the windscreen, Gary. But still didn't realize that Einion meant the auto product!
My first thought was some kind of window screen cleaner indigenous to only the UK...
    jeez....

    Other excellent solvents:

Denatured alcohol (works excellent for cleaning off acrylic paint without harming the surface, aircraft modelrs use it to wipe off overspray on clear parts, ya .. it's that gentle!)

Acetic acid, better known as vinegar, also the main ingredient in window cleaning solutions (but perfumed to not smell like it) Vinegar is 10:1 ~ 7:1 water and acetic acid..
