Looking great! Hope you pay the same kind of attention
to other details such as uniform, folds, posture, etc.

    Hi Taesung,

I feel a bit obliged to do so as the head turned out fine.
    Most difficult task.
I love making wrinkles and folds and paying attention to them.
Ed is my first real attempt trying some realism in a face, some time ago I made my Dieter:

The head is from Dogtag ( I'm still very curious who makes them :)) and I molded some equipment. The figure is based on a wired frame which I measured carefully.
This is more or less a fantasy figure 1/16. I enjoyed reading Tan's book about this type of soldier and it was a great help ( you may tell him some day :) )

Let's say I am quite happy with Ed's face as far as I can judge without any paint.
Knowing myself, the more acurate his likeness will be after painting, the more I will be striving for an exact copy directly taken from the movie.
It's this relaxed pose, a bit hung over with the rifle down but at the same time realizing his fate.
His nakedness is enhanced by wonderful camerawork and this tremendous glance with his eyes to his left.
A posture like this is my goal though it has become a large scale. His head alone measures 2.6 cm now and I'm not sure about his scale. I did some maths comparing a 1/16 head - k98 and it equals my Ed -K98 ( measuring 11.7 cm)

I look forward sculpting the colar, the cap, the scope.
At this point I consider a buste an option.

But Major Konig should have this nice boots.....

    thanks,

    René

Yes, a bust would be a great choice for the size. :)

Superb and fascinating sculpting so far! very much enjoying the progress

If the head was in the head set by DogTag (they released 2 sets IIRC), then I think they were sculpted by Calvin Tan

    Taesung,
now you make me doubt which path to follow :D

A buste can be so expressive by suggestion unless you know this character he performed. The rifle with it's scope could be layed under the bust like a gadget.
In other ways the rifle will disrupt some things when closed in.
Think I will have to do some schetching here.

    Rob,
if this is true, I'm not surprised.
These are the finest heads I ever saw. Without any paint even characterheads like these look innocent but after painting you realize how skillful they are made and they turn out even nastier.

    Hi Steve,

I just looked into your Benchmark, such compliment from you feels like a great delight.

I love your ppsh man and mister Crowe!

together with his rifle mister Harris keeps his cool in siliconvalley now ;-)
The little altering I yet had in mind merely exists of some sanding.
    Better on a resin copy.

    thanks!

Like you René i had to make many changes over the course of sculpting Russell Crowe to get things right and it helps when others look and give you their input as sometimes after looking so long at the work you stop seeing things as clearly.

You have done an excellent job in getting the portrait correct, not an easy thing to achieve.

    Cheers

Ik know I know...this should not be in a sculptors topic...
..the painting however does help me to figure out to determine where the sculpt has failed in likeness or where flaws are terribly enhanced by the paint.

    just a quick paintjob .....

I noticed the nose was a bit of center and the eyeballs are a bit flat, not convex. Painted with the eyes to the left one will notice.
On a next copy I need to alter this.

Looking good René so far, would be good to see him with his field cap on to get better idea.

As for eye balls have you tried using steel ball bearings to create the eye balls, just sink them into the skull and sculpt eye lids around them so you get perfect eyes. You can buy steel ball bearing in sizes from 1mm upward working in half mm sizes, i think about a 2.5mm would be about right for 1/16 scale as i use 2mm for 90mm figures.

    Cheers
