    Hello,
I've just started boxart of first figure from upcoming Mantis Miniatures release. The SS-Unterscharführer (Ardennes 1944) figure is in 1/35 scale, sculpted by my friend Laurent Borget. It is first of a pair. I will post more progress pics asap. Any comments are welcome, as always :)

    The head is redy.

    Thanks Gordy!
It's just white Tamiya's Fine Surface Primer in aerosol. Light grey is better for photography, but was out of stock in local shop :)

    Thanks Artur,

I was always curious about aerosols versus airbrush and how the heavier aerosol droplets could obscure fine detail, but from your pictures it clearly does not seem to be the case :)

You know Gordy, I had the same problem :) But you should try. I don't know about other, but Tamiya's aerosol is very fine and all details are clear when dry. Suggests a small dose, gradually.

    Thanks a lot, Costas!

    cheers

I'll give it a go - much less hassle than rigging up an airbrush session!

    Excellent start!
The CAMO pattern of the helmet is wonderful.
The facial expression is also beautiful.
I'm looking forward to progress of your work.

Just a fantastic start. I just can't understand the detail that you and others can paint on to a 1/35th. Very impressive stuff sir.

Wow, what a painting and sculpting! It has a well-balanced frame even it is small in size like 1/35th, no "Over-scaled-too-big-hands" problem which small scale figures usually have. This is amazing.

I also liked the painting you've done on the face and helmet. The camouflage patterns are beautifully done and not only its pattern but also I can see the highlighting and shading on the wrinkles of the camouflage are nicely done too, I think thats a nice spice to it.

Thanks a lot for comments, guys.

This figure is inspired on a beautiful Johnny Shumate's art. Also it is a great reference materials. I really recommend his works.

No Gord's doesn't make any difference at all as a heavy coat would have to be sprayed on to make detail illegibile, I do it with my aircraft and it never changes the surfaces at all.(y)
