OK – I’ve reached a conclusion. Andy Cairns doesn’t sleep. All he does 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is turn out little masterpieces like this one. Look – how many kits does he have on PF? – six!! The Minenwerfer and German officer, the Digger at Gallipoli, the US Marine in the Pacific, Lt. Nechiporenko, Kokoda, the RFC pilot and now seven! And that’s just the ones he’s showing us! What an output!

Got the kit package on Thursday afternoon and I’d just opened it. I was turning the various parts over in my hands. My wife was sitting nearby looking at me.

“Hey-can I see the horse head?”, she asked. I handed it to her. She kept looking at it from different angles, holding it close and then farther away.

“Wonderful craftsmanship,” she muttered. “The horse head reminds me….of sumpthin’… Oh yeah, the bed scene in the Godfather.” Saying this she laid the horse head down kinda sideways on the table and got closer to it. “Where the producer wakes up and the race horse’s head is in the bed.” And at that we both cracked up. My wife has a weird sense of humor. :O

For those of you who can't place the scene - I popped in a photo of it.

Andy said he'd forgive anybody that decided to use the horse's head to do a vignette of the bed scene! :)

In his original March 5 PF post Andy said this kit was “multi-media”. I had no idea what that meant. Take a look at the green card. It's chock full of taped-down ostrich feathers, aluminum rod, etched and cast metal horse bits and parts, twine – Andy’s definition of multi-media.

The whole kit comes nicely packed in bubble wrap in six different plastic zip loc bags. Very nicely done. By way of instructions, Andy has hand-drawn the walk rope and bridle and the water bottle straps and cork rope. He recommends that the feathers can be used not just for the Light Horse hat plume, but also for the horse's eyelashes.

The scale of the kit is 1/10th - large and highly, highly detailed. The sculpting throughout -I hope I've given you enough photos and enough close-ups that you can judge that for yourself, but IMHO, it's outstanding. Probably the best Andy has ever done.

Painters - Break those piggy banks --- you have to have this one!

    All the best,
    Dan

    Guy,
The figure bust is attached to the horse by the troopers right arm. There is a locating pin just under the right arm that fits into a hole on top of the horses mane.
