This is the start of the latest sculpt in the range of Heroines.
Aleksandra Samusenko was a female Tank Commander who fought at the battle of Kursk in 1943.
She was killed in the last days of the war in the final battle for Berlin.
All comments and critique most welcome and many thanks for looking.

    Cheers Ken

Dare I say it; Ken, you're addicted to heroines.

    Sorry for that.

Great likeness mate and filling a small but very important gap in the market.

    Ken ,
I like the start on this one , nice smile , should be another cracker and as said in previous posts on Night Witch , these so so brave women deserve more recognition .

I have now read from cover to cover the Osprey Elite book -Heroines of the Soviet Union , amazing stories of both personal courage in and away from the battlefield .

Look forward to seeing more on this and "future" ones as I have a feeling this won't be the last !!!(y)

Here's an idea wha about a bust of a HSU winner in full dress uniform , rather than the "working" dress with embelishments , as shown in the Osprey on page 13 of Gds Major Polina Gelman ..just an idea !!!

    update more pics

Made a bit of progress, I started on the helmet and torso. This is my first attempt at a Russian Tankers helmet, so no doubt it'll be two steps forward one step back until I'm happy with it.:) Many thanks for looking .

    Ken,
    progressing nicely.

Like how you do the head as a complete unit, then work on hte body to match......makes sense.

Where are you getting all these pictures from?

You didn't defect many decades ago, did you? Ex-curator at the Soviet Forces Museum? ;):D

Good to see women, and a women in a genuine combat role.

A pleasant change from the standard WW2 subjects.....

    Keep on going!

    Cheers

Michael, yes this will be released by http://www.minutemanmodels.com after the Night Witch release.

Jamie, the reason I build up the head separately is simply that , any putty left over I tend to stick on the end of either a cocktail stick or a cheap metal tube to cut down after. I've never really thought about doing it any other way.:) All the info and pics come from a fellow Planeteer Redtom who's a Russian Historian, I was going to say Nut but I'm too polite.:D. Many thanks Jamie.

    Cheers Ken
