I have posted a nine part series on painting the Andrea 1/10th scale Red Baron bust using Andrea colors that covers basic information for the beginning painter on You Tube. Paint mixing, spot washes and shading, highlighting techniques are covered. They are all available here:

Thanks Dave, any chance of seeing one using Oils over an acrylic base. There isn't anything really out there that does a good job of clearly showing how to mix paints, apply highlights and shadows, etc. on busts and figures.

    Thanks,

Thanks Marc. I am already familiar with this.
I don't see the video part of painting with oils that I was enquiring about. Dave's SBS is by video and not a printed document. Dave has asked if there are any future requests by video. From what i have been reading, I think a lot of people would be interested in seeing this kind of thing.

    Oils over acrylic

I only use oils over acrylics when I am painting horses. I am currently working on the new Andrea 90mm kit 'The Trophy' so I can create a video explaining acrylic base colors and oil finishes/mixes on the horse - if you think that would be of interest. Let me know!

    Video Painting Demo anyone?

Thanks for the reply Dave. I enjoyed the demo on youtube. I would be very interested in seeing it but would feel better if others chimed in and provided encouragement as well.

Personally I would love to see a video SBS on oil painting. I watched Craig Whitakers video on Historicus and learned a lot but would love to see something more in depth. Just my two cents!

As the thread popped back up I just wanted to add that the viscosity cue used in the video - melted butter - is a good one.

Lots of times acrylic/vinyl painters liken their dilution level of the paints to skimmed milk, milk, heavy milk, light cream and cream and while that's pretty helpful milk varies a lot unfortunately! Melted butter might be an easier (and more consistent) consistency for new painters to keep in mind.
