    Hi guys,

Here are the first WIP pics of my latest project; 1/9th scale Rorke's Drift bust by Thunderbird Miniatures.

I've primed and base coated the flesh areas and applied the first series of highlights, but there's no shading done so far. I've gone for a sunburnt skin tone with Vermillion added to the base flesh mix.

I've also positioned the eyes by outlining the shape and size of the pupils in Burnt Umber, but no other details have been added yet.

Next step will be to sharpen up the eyes by outlining the upper and lower eyelids, applying a dark brown/ black line under the upper eyelid and adding some subtle colour variation into the pupil.

Hi Tony very good start mate, this is one I feel I should get, there is the new Zulu Bust as well from JMD is it? stand to be corrected, which would go well together with this one.

Thanks for posting and I will be keeping tabs on your progress.RobH:D

Carl, Rob, Hardy, Willem and Marc - Thanks to you all. I'm greatly encouraged by your positive comments.

Rob, I don't think JMD do the bust you're thinking of. Willem, you can buy this bust from El Greco Miniatures.

I've been busy painting the face tonight and have made some good progress.

There's still some blending to do and some details that need to be picked out with the upper highlights, but it's coming along nicely.

Any comments/ suggestions would be welcomed.

    Hi Tony

Thats pretty damn good mate, eyes are great, skin colour very good, can I make a suggestion, on the shading though, give it a little more of a dirty feel this guy would have been in the dust and dirt as well as being sweaty and smelly. other than that keep it up mate, good work

That's excellent Tony love how the face has come out, I know the Zulu bust was featured as a release a few weeks ago but can't remember by whom, if anyone can give me a heads up that'll be great. Look forward to this one with interest.;) RobH.

Thanks Carl,Ken, Dave, David and Rob,

Here are the latest progress pics.

Don't freak out over the uniform colour, it's just a thin base coat for the red colour.

I'm just blocking in the main colours and will bring them into sharper focus when I start shading and highlighting.

Looking good Tony. The face has got the right look of dispair and fatigue that he should have.
