This is my other project I'm working on at the moment.
It's a Husar de San Narciso from 1809. The figure is also based on the drawing of Michael Saez.

For this figure I used a spare head and some legs which were adjusted. The rest of the body is sculpted with Magic sculp. The braid work was done with a mixture of MS and Duro. It was the first time I made these small details. In the beginning it was sometimes frustrating but in the end it went better and better. If you have some comments or critiques please post them because I still have a lot to learn in sculpting.
Here are the pictures, now it's time to give this fellow some paint and also finish the last paintwork on the dragoon.
    Thanks for looking!

    Marcel.

Lovely job Marcel. I don't know if it's just me, but the flag pole appears a little thick.

Marcel, nice idea for a pose and great work on the conversion.
From the drawing he appears to be leaning slightly on his sword and you might want to make your's more vertical and nearer to his feet. We know that his weight is balanced because he's leaning with his back against the wall, however somehow he'll appear to be more so. I Hope this makes sense.
    Many thanks for sharing.

Nice piece of work, I would like to point out a couple of things that I think may help with the composition, the flag seems to look a little stiff, would this not be hanging more vertical( wind accepted) if not then would anything else be blowing in the wind. Also having justr looked over the history of cigarettes, I hope you are planning to make the one in his mouth a cigar, as paper wrapped cigarettes were not invented until 1832, by an Egyptian artilleryman during the siege of Acre. the Egyptian's cannon crew had improved their rate of fire by rolling the gunpowder in paper tubes. For this, he and his crew were rewarded with a pound of tobacco.Their only pipe was broken, so they took to rolling the pipe tobacco in the paper tubes. All in all a good piece

George, Carl, Ken, Dave, Serkan and Marc thanks for the compliments and comments much appreciated.

George: Some painting pictures will follow soon!

Carl: The pole is 1/16" or 1.5 millimeter thick but I will check if it's too thick.

Ken: I will try a more straight position as I planned initially.

Dave: With the flag I had cut out a piece of putty and placed it around the pole and wanted to pull the flag down to a hanging position but that didn't work. So the flag ended up like this due to a lack of experience. I also find it a bit too thick. So I'm going to give it another try and if it's better I will replace it.
Thanks about the info on cigarettes I never thought they wouldn't be invented yet! It will be a cigar.

    Marcel,
Wouldn't it be better to use leadfoil for making the flag.
I use it from a winebottle. That's better because you have first to drink the bottle and then fould a flag. Believe me, it works like hell. You never get such great wrinkles. Be sure you want a straight flag if you do this:D:D:D.

If you don't like wine you can use some leadfoil...from something else or aluminiumfolie (I know it's not english)

    Hi Marcel

I take it you are using Magisculp for the flag, a quick tip get a round pencil or brass tube, spread a very thin layer of talcum powder (baby powder) over a very smooth surface and then roll out your putty on to this adding small amounts of powder as you go, you can get MS down to about 0.5mm thick then, trim your shape and leave for an hour. MS will stay soft for a lot longer when its this thin. Then brush the surface with a little water where you are going to roll it, pick up the edge and roll around your chosen rod for the pole. You could use a bit of super glue here instead, not a lot though. Then stand the flag in the position that you want it in, and the flag should then droop close to what you want, you can then move it a round a little to get exactly what you want.

    Very interesting project!
    I wait for the painting!
The flag seems a bit stiff for me too.

About the cigarretes made of paper... Those were smoked by the spanish troops of this age.
The danish peasants were very allarmed to see these troops smoking them in their fields for the danger of fire, as some authors testify. This was during the occupation of Denmark in 1808.
There are a good number of engravings by Christopher Suhr, from Hamburg, that portraited these troops when they were in his city (1808) with many soldiers smoking paper cigarretes.

    Hi Marcel

My apologies, I have been on many sites since putting up the comment on the cigarettes, it does seem pretty strange, in some cases its in the 1600’s the a maize paper was used as a outer casing, and on others much later, so I may be wrong in my research for this.

Diego, its a strange subject I must admit, so thank you for the insight ....

    Marc,
I have both lead foil and wine bottles. :) I thought about it to make it from lead foil but the disadvantage of this is that it stays flexible and might be bend accidentally when finished and maybe the paint will come of then.
I will give MS another try if this doesn't work I will make it of lead foil.
    Thanks,
    Marcel.

Thanks dave I had another try yesterday and I was able to get the flag hanging and the MS is much thinner. Only my daughter wanted some attention so I had to stop before it was finished.

Diego thanks for the nice words and additional info on the cigarretes. I wasn't able to find any additional info about these husars.

Dave: don't worry! I didn't think about it in the first place and when I searched on internet the first thing I found was also around the same year you mentioned.

Guy, Ray, John and Pedro thanks for the compliments!

    Marcel.
