Here is a figure that I finished a while back, right after the MFCA show last spring. Its a one off 54mm figure sculpted with Magic Sculpt with Hornet head and Michael Roberts musket. This was the first time I painted a tartan, was actually a lot of fun, tho still a lot to learn it took a lot of the fear out of trying it again.

this would have flown as a commercial release.
Nice choice of head, looks like a young Richard Nixon, typical scots/english borderer face.
Walk through Hawick and you'll see faces like this all around.

    Thanks guys!

    Derek,

I think that Mr. Saunders and Michael Roberts would have been unhappy if it was a commercial kit, however, I am planning on doing another Grenadier from the French and Indian war for commercial release at some point.

    Steve,

This was actually the last figure I painted completey in vallejo's. I think the blue background for the kilt may have been a Reaper color but can't recall for sure. If you haven't tried Reaper paints yet you should, they are very nice!

    Thats a lovely figure, Anders!

But I think there should be a bit more structure in the fur of the cap. Perhaps sculpted, perhaps painted?

As I sometimes remember your early sculpt, I wonder how it would look if you did the Karolin returning home on crutches once again?

    Cheers

This is a real nice figure Anders, nicely posed and some nice painting also.

Could you tell us more about these Reaper paints ?

    Thanks guys!

    Janne,

I'm not sure about the fur hat, was the first time I've done something like that and went from Osprey plates, not the best of reference all the time.

As for the walking Karoiln figure, I thought about that the other day, might be fun to do it once more just to see the change. But instead I am doing another Karl XII period piece, well, maybe two actually. Looking forward to it!

    Steve,

Reaper paints tend to flow a little better then the Vallejo's, and they blend extremely well. I also think they are flatter then Vallejo's, offering a true flat color with most of the colors which eliminates the need for a flattening agent. They also seem to dry a little harder and more resilient then Vallejo's, though we shouldnt be handling the figures too much once they are painted, it is good to know it can handle it!

The hat depicted in the plate looks good to me. Although I wish the would show the backside of things to leave out any guesswork.

It looks like you forgot to add the pocket flaps. They show them.
Do you plan on doing anymore highlanders?~Gary

Yeah I did leave off the pockets, don't remember why, but seemed to be a good reason at the time :)

Yes, I will do more highlanders at some point. Want to do some French and Indian war stuff, perhaps a 78th Foot Grenadiers at the battle of Sillery, quebec 1760.

lovely figure. Only comment would be that the colours on the kilt are too light. Black Watch tartan, through the ages, has always been very dark.

    But a lovely figure.
