    Hi everyone!

Here is my WIP of Andrea's 90mm U-Boat Captain.

I have always wanted to do a U-Boat Captain Figure, but the ones that have been availiable over the years just didn't seem to do it for me, so when I saw this one that Andrea released last year, I had to have it.

First up is the Mount for it.I didn't go too much on the White Metal one that came with the Figure, and being on a Soldering kick when I started it, I decided to re-do it in Brass, which I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out.

Here is the Figure assembled and mounted up for test fitting, but gaps are yet to be filled in with Magic Sculpt Putty.

With the bench being Wood painted over with a Dark Grey, I decided to try and replicate the wood texture using Acrylics, over painted with Burnt Umber Oil Paint, with which I will add some Maskol before spraying the Grey and then rub off the Maskol hopefully replicating some chipping of the paint revealing a bit of the wood underneath. The woodgrain is overkill I know, but I thought it was a good chance to get some woodgrain painting practice in.:)

Finally on to the first stages of painting the Figure itself.I still have not used any Clear Coats yet to dull down the shiny areas.....When I painted the Fleshtones of the face, I didn't do the hands at the same time, so when I tried to mix up some more for the hands I just couldn't get it to look right, so I ended up sanding off the detail of the hands, applying a couple of coats of Mr Surfacer and depicted him wearing Gloves.:(

Jim, if I can get it finished and if I can make it up there I will definatetly bring it.

    Thanks Ray!

Thanks Christos,.....I have changed my Flesh Mix from previous figures I've done, and I thought it looked ok in the flesh, and I was quite happy with it, but under Photographic conditions it does look fairly plain......its funny, I was happier with the face than the wood grain, the wood grain was only an experiment, but it seems to be the thing most commented on.:D.....Any suggestions on which parts of the face need work, and is it too late to do it?

    Thanks for looking guys,
    Jeff.

Hi Jeff,I think it's not too late just put some more shadows to the cheeks and some more highlights around the eyes and nose to make a bigger contrast, your hats tones are very nice.I am looking forward to see your next steps, have a nice day,Christos.

    Thanks Juddo!

Thanks Carl, yes I saw Hardy's excellent rendition of this figure when he posted his WIP here, and I have always looked at it for inspiration.

    Thank you Mitsutaka!

Yes Christos, one of my biggest mistakes in the past is not having my face work more pronounced, they have not got enough contrast. They have looked just right under lights at the workbench, but when I show them in a different light, all the shadows and highlights dissapear.I will have to work on this......I might try and go back and re-work this one, but I am worried about ruining it completely, I'll see how I go, but I will definatetly keep this in mind for my next one.

Thanks a lot for the input Christos!

Pedro, Dan and Corey, thanks very much fellas!!

    Cheers,
    Jeff.

    Hi all,

More progress on my U-Boat Captain......

    Pants and Boots completed.

I did a re-paint of the face trying to get a bit more contrast, but I don't think it looks much different here in the pics.In person it looks a lot better and I was quite pleased with the result, but this will be the final look as I don't want to get too much more paint build up on it.

Now I will move onto the Jacket!

    Thanks for looking,
