Below is another photo of the couple. I also found of photograph of the scene done in a much larger than life sulpture. What a great ready made vignette. ~Gary

"Unconditional Surrender,” a 25-foot, 6,000 pound statue by world-renowned artist J. Seward Johnson commemorating a famous World War II photo was unveiled Feb. 10 at Mole Park in San Diego.

Unconditional Surrender is a three-dimensional interpretation of a photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt of a Sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, New York City on Aug. 14, 1945, following the announcement of V-J Day"

This famous foto was taken at Times Square, New York, August 1945 at Victory over Japan-Day.

There exists no figure set of it.

But it would a nice peace for self sculpting.

Good grief! That statue is aweful! It looks like a piece of folk art you'd find in some eccentric artist's front lawn.

That said, a 54mm figure of the scene would be interestig, but all of the finest details would have to be captured with finesse and accuracy.

Yeah, I think the size is a little crazy. I've also seen pictures of lifesize version that looks to be done in fiberglass or similiar medium that's not as bad. A bronze probably would have been more artistic. ~Gary

Interesting stuff, always like to see where others draw their inspiration from!

    Mark,
years ago some one did a vignette of the fellow staring down the tank in Tienanmen Square in 1/35, I think pix of it appeared in either Fine Scale Modeler or the Australian Model magazine.

    Still, a great little piece!

    Cheers

I wonder how many photos have been taken of people looking up the dress of that statue.

I'd buy it if I could find one, for sure. Large scale hopefully, 120mm. I was a sailor and I've had that moment in many ports [smirks]. Let the good times role was my motto.
