    A few suggestions

    Hi Mark,

You've really captured Rommell there. The likeness is excellent.:D

If I may suggest, a bit more blending of the shadow flesh tones on the hands (and don't forget the fingernails) are needed.;);)

I can see you're painting the flesh in acrylic (and doing an excellent job I would say).

If you have oil paints, may I suggest you wash a thin coat of flesh colour mixed with 50% white spirits, and a small drop of van Dyke Brown/ Burnt Umber and Prussian Blue. If you don't have oils, you can use the same colours and replace the white spirits with 80% water.

It will help define some of the small lines and wrinkles around the eyes and on the face, neck and hands. In this very large scale, it will enhance the realism.;);)

    Hi Mark.
    Really enjoying your blog.
In fact its' inspired me to finish off the Legends bust of Rommel which has been sitting on my work bench for about 18 months.
Unlike your self I'm working in oils and enamels.

I'm curious about how you have done his anti gas goggles.
I'd really appreciate any tips on constructing them you could give me.

    Cheers

    Chris

Hi Tony and thanks for the input, the hands are still not quite finished but i need to get the bulk of the jacket sorted. :)

re using oils and "hot" products to do washes over acrylics.

how long should i allow for drying and i'm assuming once i have used oil washes then no more acrylics can go over it???

    uhhh!

and thanks again for the comments :)

hi Chris ..... check out the pics with arrows :)

i'm using paper for almost all strap work these days and even for some of the metalwork too....
    1. cut out the shapes
    2. paint them with acrylic base coats and allow to dry
    3. form to shape if required and position on model
    4. spread a thin super glue on them to freeze them in place
    5. paint as normal

the transparent part is a bit of bubble packaging off a 5min epoxy pack cut to shape (using the hat as a scale reference) and adding a bead of ClearFix around the edge and a piece of paper for the bit across the top... several coats of Klear to make it nice and shiny, not the best bit of scratching but it will do and hope that helps :)

    Thanks Ken :)

bet you thought this one was dead too eh? ;)

this has been on a slow back burner while other brighter ( newer ) projects drew my attention, but i promised myself no new paints till this is done!

i'm calling the thing finished, i've learned one important lesson doing this jacket though... USE THE AIRBRUSH on really big plain surfaces!

it's a long way from perfect but enough! just the base to sort out tommorow and this one is fin!
