Here are the final pics of my Naked Army 315mm conversion of an Australian Army infantryman in Vietnam c. 1966.

Glad you managed to finish this one Tony and what a great job you did in the end,nice weathering with the mud and the sweat effect on the chest and neck really add to the effect.

Hi Steve, thanks mate. The sweat was created by washing a clear gloss acrylic over the skin after dusting pastels on.

Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. As I've mentioned before the eyeball of this figure is roughly the same size as a 54mm figure's head.

A Military Tool

Yes, call me "Hu Flung Dung".

Here's an old pic of me when I was a very young "military tool" flying around in Hueys on exercise in the Blue Mountains c.1983-84.

I'm carrying the same weapon (L1A1 SLR) and wearing the same uniform as the Naked Army figure, and I even have the same stupid grin on my ridiculously camoflagued face

That's why I didn't need any reference books to paint this figure, just a good memory.

finished item looks awesome, you would never know the head came from a different figure.

i think i'll have to re-visit my version soon as i need to put a few extra touch on him before locking him away forever

Perfect job on the figure all around! Nice colours, the eyes really pop and with the smile (not easy to get it right IMO) they make the expression very lively and realistic The uniform and equipment hit just the same high level, a real stunner!

On the older SLR'S ( with the wooden carry handle )the woodwork was one piece and continued under the gas plug towards the sling swivell . Jeez mate you were a lot younger if the pic time does fly, well done the figure looks good

G'day my good mate Al, glad you like the pic (and the figure). I thought you'd get a chuckle out of seeing me in Rambo mode. Time has really flown since that pic was taken. I'll check the woodwork on the SLR and fix it. Thanks for encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone on this guy.

VERY Nicely done, I like your intense attention to detail, especially the grottied up jungle uniform and the SLR, which I also used in the Brit Army, wood is at least real and other aspects. One has to go to this level on a large scale, well done Tony.
