It seems as though many of us are painting the same figure or figures and after starting this figure I can see why. This is an amazing figure with detail sculpted by A. Laruccia on both the Aquilifer and the Roman Officer.

I started this figure and worked on it over the last several months while doing other figures in the same time period. I decided Saturday it was so close to being finished to go ahead and finish the first figure of 2 to form a vignette. Here is my version of Soldiers Roman Aquilifer. The flesh was done in tube oils and the rest of the figure was painted in enamels.

I recently bought 6 of the below bases from Ron Sanders in Tulsa Oklahoma and decided to use the first one for the vignette. The front will be finished off as a cliff embankment and the whole scene will be in a snowy winter.

Beautifully painted Guy. It's a marvellous figure and looks amazing when painted. Can't wait to see it finished and on its base. Don't forget to add some mud and slush on his cloak and feet.

Thanks Tony and Patrick for the feedback.

Tony - I usually wait until I am painting the groundwork so as to get the same colors used on the ground, also on the figure.

Hey Guy, Well done! I really like the vinette idea.Looking forward to seeing your progress on this one. I am also doing this figure as we speak! It really is a great sculpt loaded w/ detail. I also have the other two recently released Laruccia Romans on order. .
Please if possible, provide a web or email link for the Ron Sanders bases.
    Again, well done.!!

Thanks Steve for the feedback. I have the third Roman Standard Bearer with the Shield (SR-43) but decided it was one too many figures for the size of the base.

Marc ~ Christos ~ David - Thanks for the feedback.

David - Take a look at SR-42 and SR-43 as well. I had planned to do all 3 together but the base is not big enough.

guy, beautifully painted , i love the leather colors , also like that base its similar to the ken thomas brown burls he sells with some imperfections (to similate a cliff ) only larger which is nice for a vignette , cant wait to see finished piece with groundwork which is always well planned .thanks much jimmy
