This one may take a while. This is a beautiful kit and fortunately the horse does not need a lot of putty as 90% of the seams are covered by the harness, reigns and the cape. I will be going with the box art colors which depict a faded turquoise tunic and a faded red cape. I did a base coat of medium flesh and a second coat of dark brown and flat black for the horse. Tomorrow I will start the first coat of oils on the horse and the face.
Let me know what you think of the horse colors.

Great start, Rocky. Nice to see you postin' your colours used, thanks.

You've airbrushed the horse I take it?!

    Paul,

It was airbrushed in acrylics. Next step is the oils.

I added the first coat of oils to the horse and first highlights and shadows.
The pics are glossy because the oils are still wet.
I am just looking for input for the colors used. Too much contrast between the colors? The horse has incredible detail, raised veins, great muscle definition and an outstanding face. Please let me know what you think positive or negative.

    Rocky,

Looks pretty good so far. I wouldn't say there's too much contrast between the colors, but I would soften the transitions between the two. Even the box-art, in my opinion, would benefit from more gradual transitions.

    Jason,

Thanks for the input. I agree with you on all points. After I take the pictures I sit down and beat myself, as the camera does not lie. I work wet on wet for two days until I am satisfied with the results. The transitions will be softened but I have to get away from the piece overnight. I will do what I call a little stipling on the transitions tomorrow morning.
I will also begin the face tomorrow. I have never seen a head this well done. I only hope I can do it justice.
    Thanks for the comments!

A little more progress on the horse today. I added some veins, which need to be toned down, started working on the mouth, eyes, nose, hoofs and socks. I placed the crusader and saddle on for painting and fit purposes along with the harness. All temporary of course. Next comes the dry on wet transitions, shading and highlighting. I am not sure why the eyes look so red in the pics? They are actually brown with a touch of red. This is going to take a while! All comments welcome. BTW, I would appreciate a good oil mix for turquoise.

He looks great Rocky. I like the transition of the colors and the veins look perfect too. I can't see the vein on the stomach.....is it done the same way?

    Guy,
I was concerned that the veins may be a little too light in color and have too much "pop." Yes, the vein on the stomach is done the same way. I will try to take some more defining pics. I have more to do on the eyes and mouth as the eyes have dried looking red? I will never master acrylics! Hopefully I can get some more work done on this figure before I leave on Thursday for NY.
Thanks for your input Guy! It is always truly appreciated.

    John,

Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully I will be able to post some more pics tomorrow. This is one of the best cast kits that I have ever seen. The face of the crusader is beyond words.

    Rocky
