Here is my latest project finally finished after a year of on and off progress.
It is a super limited edition Shane Tarry sculpture painted with a variety of mediums and techniques.

Mike, the painting on this is nothing short of flawless. Just looking at the tunic I am learning allot. It's a shame this was a limited release as I now wouldn't mind having a go at this one.

Thanks Matt for the kind feedback. I have posted some more dramatically lit photos on MedRom (works with the dark surroundings there) so you can get a different perspective on the painting. The tunic is actually painted in oils in a fashion similiar to Hardy Tempest's methods for white.

If figured you were an oils man, but I can still sort out the technique (acrylics painter)

Actually I'm more of an acrylics painter Matt, but have used oils quite a bit in the past. This figure is very much a multi media subject with acrylics, oils, enamels, lacquer and printers inks used on this project, whatever helped best convey the look I was after.

In the case of this figure I used oils on the tunic and crest, acrylics for the non metallic surfaces and ground work was based heavily on Humbrols.

glad you like the ground work, all of the plants are actually different types of sea debris found while scouring the beach for "foliage", needed to remove some tiny shells but other than that the painted up well.

By the way Stephen I picked up on a trick that one of the Malta crowd advised me of a while back, not sure if it was Ray or Ivan. However the groundwork is done with a variety of small sea weed bushes.

Really neat stuff that seems to last for ages and takes paint pretty well.

Hi Mike. Very good painting and I like the whole scene. How have you made the texture of the cape. Is looks very realistic. Not so smooth as normally.

BTW I will get from Shane his last celt

So I am really interested to know how you paint the cape.

Great news to hear you will be getting the final Celt from Shane Ulrich. I look forward to seeing your version and thanks for your nice comments.

With reference the cloak, you can see some step by steps on MedRom for this. I added the texture with "Winsor & Newton's Fine Texture Gel for Acrylics" it doesn't take much practice to use but you need to be careful not to overdo the effect. When dry I painted it with acrylics. I like trying to do different textures and effects, so am always on the look out to experiment with different methods.
