    Hi,
Here's the latest from my workbench.
It's a great Batman bust from Figuralia.

That I'd like to ask from you is what you think of the "eyes".
For the moment, I've left them plain white in the comic book style.
I saw this on a great bust of Green Lantern at the last MFCA show and thought it was an interesting way to go. But now I'm not sure I like in on this piece.
    Thanks,
    Craig

    nice work!

    hi Craig!,
Looks good there mate, liking the skin and the white eyes thing works but would look better imo if you painted on some OSL, you know, that source lighting thing that the fantasy crowd go for.
another option is to go for the dark eyes look and add beard shadow too for an air of menace.
you could 'two piece ' the mask by making the rear of the head-gear dark blue as is and the 'face-plate' a blackish colour; again might give a sense of dark character.
( cheers for your help btw, love the stippling thing)

all the best mate ---- tim

Craig, I like the figure, and I like the way you painted it. I think it would look nicer if you painted the eyes.
    Just my two cents.
Will you be going to the Long Island Show?

    Cheers

Hey Craig, how are you doing ?
Personally I dont like white eyes but as already pointed out it depends if you want to depict a comic (white eyes) of movie based (painted eyes) version.
Using a wooden base and considering the realistic style you used when painting it I think that painted eyes will give him some more appeal, also consider it is just an half bust and most of his strength will be on eyes, just my opinion.

    Craig,
Since the Batman figure you're painting appears to depict the Caped Crusader as he appeared in the movies, I'd paint the eyes in. You could choose Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kiler or Christian Baile!!
    I like it so far.
    Cheers

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for the feedback.
I'm leaning towards painting the eyes. As mentioned, if I had painted it in the "comic book" style I think it would look okay. But I have no idea how to go about painting it that way
    Luca,
Nice to hear from you again :)
For those of you that don't know it, Luca (Calvin) is the sculptor of this piece.
I hope that you like what I've done with the piece so far. I especially hope that you aren't offended that I opted not to use the pedestal you did that comes with the bust. It's a really nice pedestal but there wasn't any way I could come up with to use it and safely be able to take the piece on the road to shows with me.
    Hi Roc,
No, I won't be going to the Long Island show. I've never made it up to that one yet. I'm guessing that you're going so have a good time.
    Thanks again everyone,
    Craig

    Craig,
Very difficult for the grasshopper to question the master! However, IMO I would paint the eyes as you have done such an outstanding job on every thing else! I understand the comic book look but the eyes will bring Batman to life.

On the opposite, seeing how people paint, transform and in a word interpret what I sculpt is what I most enjoy of the hobby. I do exactly the same when sculpting a 3d rendition of a 2d artwork ;-)

My sentiments exactly. You've done a nice job on this one Craig, I think given the realistic start, I would opt for the eyes. Let us know how you decide. Cool piece!
