1/6 Von Richthofen fro Model Cellar. The casting is very nicely done and it is big and unusual. It is a big canvas and a lot of flesh and leather. I have a god way to go but I would appreciate any advice and comments.

It may just be the photos, but I think the flesh looks a bit orange/yellow. You might try cooling down your flesh mix with some blue.

What Leather? If you are talking about the coat, it is a standard German great coat, which would be gray wool or wool blend.

Looks like a neat piece and a really good start. IMO only, I would add a bit of blush to the cheeks, lips, nostrils and ear lobes. Add's a bit of warmth.

Look forward to seeing more of this one...

I had no idea? Thanks for letting me know that! I have two photos of him in long coats and one is definately leather, although it is black. I did think about making it black, but after your point I may add a little green to effect the wool look. Thanks for the tip.

Jason, After cropping and resizing it does look a bit bright. I am using Mongo's recipe for flesh and I still have 4 more steps to go. I believe part of it has to with the above mentioned but I will post more after this coat has dried. I truly appreciate your comments and critique! Thanks.

As mentioned before, I do believe a very tiny amount of blue in your flesh mix will do the trick.

Since I am using oils, which blue do you recommend?

Go ahead and use any PB15 pigmented blue. WN Blue (red tint) works well for me. I have been using that for sometime now. I use Craig's basic mix but add a bit of yellow ochre and blue to cool off that Burnt Sienna. Take a look at my bench here...

You may also want to try indigo. I am working with that now.

I'm glad you are enjoying our Richthofen bust. I know it's a little departure from the "traditional" bust, but Mike did a SUPER job on it - it really is a great piece.

Anyway, that's what hobbies are all about - having fun and enjoying yourself. Keep up the good work and please post pictures when you're done. I'd love to see the finished product.

It's done in an interesting style and I think it's a great likeness to the man.

What's this about adding blue to the flesh mix? I'd like to hear more. It seems to me that blue would have no place in a flesh mix.
I see the extreme colors used on small scale figures. Is that where this comes from?

Rocky, nice start. I personaly would like to see more contrasts. Hard to say where you are so far, but a bump in contrasts would not hurt a bit. Keep us posted, fun to see this interesting piece come together!
