Finally i finished this great figure sculpted by Stefano Cannone. It is saled by Elite Miniature's.
From the first time i saw this figure on the PF i wish i wanted to paint it. My skills where not so good so i waited two years. I hope i did this figure justice with my painting.
I leave the judging to all of you. So shoot positive critiques.

Hi Marc...what a great figure to choose to paint, it's a real beauty.

I must comment on your painting here because I think it is your best so far.
I know you try to improve with every piece and you love your painting so much.
All that work is starting to pay off, because it's easy to see the smoothness of your work compared to a couple of years ago. The blending is much softer and the transitions are more gentle. The reds are very well done and you are beginning to conquer those difficult blues also.

Hi Marc. I am in the same boat as yourself at the moment. My paining skills are still developing and I too have figures waiting until I have better-mastered techniques. I also paint in oils.

Maybe it is just the photography, but you seem to have a high sheen on your reds and blues. I recently posted in the 'Painting' forum asking for advice on how to beat this very persistent problem, particularly when painting blues - worth a look. I have taken the advice posted there about colour mixes and this seems to have worked. I am currently working on Fort Duquesne's 70mm 17th Regiment and his Oxford Blue trousers have dried perfectly flat.

I started as I do with all my work - by bleeding the oils first. This works particularly well for the reds. Squeeze your paint out on to watercolour paper and leave it for at least an hour to allow the excess oil to soak in to the paper. If the paint becomes too dry, replace the oil with White Spirit.

For my dark blues I started with a dark grey mix using Lamp Black and Flake White and then added W&N Indigo to provide a very dark blue. I painted this over a dark blue/grey enamel undercoat, drawing as much of the excess oil paint off as possible. I then highlighted using an indigo and flake white mix, with a touch of lamp black to dull down the blue. I will wait a few more days for this to cure fully before picking out the deepest shadows in Lamp Black.

Marc from what I can see you really did great with this classic figure. I'm sure that your photography ruins a bit your result... but that's ok...we are figure painters... not photographers hehehehe.

Mark het ziet er geweldig uit! Het leer ziet er erg mooi uit, helemaal de handschoenen! Mooi rode tonen en overgangen.
Hopelijk bereik ik dit niveau ook nog eens. Het enige dat ik minder vind is de horizontale houten paal aan de achterkant in vergelijking tot het figuur. De modder op de laarzen ziet er ook goed uit, hoe heb je dit geschildert?

Bedankt voor je commentaar. De houten paal ligt niet horizontaal maar schuin. Het ondergrondje is bijgeleverd bij het figuur. Soms ziijn die echt mooier dan zelf knutselen. Zo ook deze.
De modder is MIG pigment Dark Mud. Geweldig spul. Heb ik nog over uit mijn tank periode.
